will a male maltese kill the females puppies if he is still with her when the puppies come?

my female maltese just had 2 puppies not due for another week the male was still in with her and one of the puppies looked like its mouth had a bite taken out of it . it was dead

Yes, it is very possible that he killed them. It is also possible that she did it to keep it away from him.
She needs peace and privacy to safely raise her pups.

But,in reality, really a male or female can eat a litter for any reason. They can do it cause the pups are sick or because they want to
I would keep the male out of there and also take the mom and pups to the vet immediately.
I recommend that you spay and neuter both dogs.

I am so sorry that this happened. Yes, the male killed the pup. I wouldn't recommend putting the male with the pups until they can AT LEAST walk, see, and hear. Maybe 8 weeks would be good.
