Where should I keep my 3 week pup. In a basket with soft sheets or where? (His mother was ill)

How big should the space be? And also, should I let him walk around a bit? Please help me raise this poor baby!

I think you should take him to the vet to see what to do.
It can be dangerous to try and raise a 3 wk old pup without knowing what you're doing.
If the vet can't help you then ask some responsible breeders to see if they have a mother dog you can put him with.
Its the best thing for him to be with a mother dog.
Best of luck!

Poor baby is off to a rough start! I agree that starting at a vet is a good idea, though you may want to avoid taking him in the actual vet just yet. There's a possibility that he could be exposed to kennel cough, parvo or other viruses at the vet which would be very serious for him.

I'd call a local vet if you don't already have one and find out exactly what you should be feeding this puppy. Puppies this young often require round the clock formula feeding.

Ideally, you need to keep him somewhere you can both keep an eye on him and where he'll be warm. Soft sheeting is preferrable to towels since the terrycloth loops can catch on the puppy's tiny toenails and pull them.

The vet will be able to give you all the specifics you need, but also try going on Dogster Forums to the dog rescue discussions and seeing if you can get support there from people who have raised puppies of this age.

Good luck and I hope he's a strong, healthy boy!

:-)

I think the question was answered wonderfully. About letting him walk around. Definately let him use his legs. Make sure he is able to get a good grip. (carpet, flat banket, something) If you are worried about him getting cold, put your furnace on 70-72 degrees. I did that even though the mom was fine. Where are you? I would definatly try to get him with a milking mother. If you were near Salem, OH I would let you use my dog. Her pups are 6 weeks old but she still feeds them.
