What is wrong with my puppy's stomach? Time for the vet AGAIN?

My pup has a mysterious stomach that doesn't seem to be very strong. She was successfully treated for Giardia and Coccidia. She's always had runny stools mixed with solid stools even in the shelter and this continued after successful treatment of those two problems. Then she started pooping blood so we went to the vet and she had hookworm. Well I followed all protocol plus meds and it seemed it was successful. I also discovered that about 1/4 cup rice with each meal kept the stools consistently hard. I was thrilled until I tried to wean her off the rice and she started runny stools PLUS dripping clear mucus after pooping or just dripping mucus when trying to poop. Does she just have a mysterious need for white rice or should I go see a vet again? I reintroduced the white rice today to see what would happen but not sure if this is normal or not

I would go back to the vet.
If the dog has had those two things, it is a chance the dog never really got over them completely, maybe one is still there or both.
Plus, if you have to take a picture of the stool on the ground and also take part of the stool with you for the appointment.
I don't believe the rice is going to be a main factor. Only switching back and forth from say for example a dogfood like solid gold to say wellness. That alone can set your dog up for tummy upset and dirrehea / even vomiting.

I have had dogs however not be infected with any parasite and just be sensitive on a certain food.
So, after you go to the vet and see what parasite exists and there is none then research something better to feed. But, I would wait on this as the dog may just be sick.

I know of a few people who claim that their dog's stomach problems have improved or gone away after switching to raw. So, I'd recommend looking into a raw diet. Look at the raw forum on Dogster, and look for Gio's post "So you are interested in feeding raw..." It contains many links to sites or threads about raw.
Be sure to read all about the diet, including the other side, before starting it.

I switched my Papillon mix to raw 11 months ago, and my vet agrees that he's healthier than he was on commercial pet foods. And my vet doesn't care for the raw diet, but she encouraged me to stick with it since Treader is doing well.

Good grief, don't switch food solve the problem first.

I have a puppy and an adult dog from the Humane Society. Both have had parasites and been treated for everything. The medications and the parasites do a number on the intestines for quite a while. The intestines don't absorb nutrients or liquids very well and it takes months to really heal. The puppy had the hardest time as she was soooooo hungry all the time! She improved with rice to the pudding poop consistancy, but not solid. We tried medication, probiotics, pumpkin, etc. The only thing that worked was a spoonful of plain cultured yogurt. Pepper eats 1 1/2 cups of food twice a day I add a tablespoon (approx) to every meal.

Lots of parasites won't get cleared without another course of wormer, usually about 3 months after the last one. I would have another fecal check done to make sure they are really gone. Then, try the probiotics for a while.

Aster

Yes, keep working with the vet. I have had 20 dogs over the last 40 years, and never had to change diet to solve a soft stool problem. Some of the parasites are hard to identify and treat.
