Any dog can be allergic to any food.
Food made for dogs often contains corn meal and chicken, and those two ingredients are probably the most common allergens.
But dogs can be allergic to anything, including hypo-allergenic foods.
Food allergies cause skin issues, like red, inflamed skin or paws and frequent ear infections. Diarrhea or vomiting are also sings of food allergy, but are actually less frequent signs than skin issues.

While more dogs are allergic to corn than anything else, it is only because so many dogs have eaten it at least at one time. I think maybe beef is supposed to be the worst of the common ingredients. Switching to a food without the common allergens only means the dog will become allergic to what it is eating if it is going to get allergies.

corn,and wheat mainly. chicken meal and sometimes beef can be an allergen though for a few dogs. mine does fine though. occasionally dogs will have reactions to egg. but if your dog is on chicken meal based food with no bad reactions, theres no point in switching.

Dogs can have allergies to anything but, most commonly it is the protein source.
So for example, if you are feeding chicken and you think your dog has allergies than you could try lamb, beef, venison, or any of the other protein sources available to you.

If your dog is has a known allergy, such as chicken, be sure you read ALL the ingredients listed on the bag. The above mentioned Nutro herring also contains poultry fat and dried egg product, both which are likely to cause problems in a dog allergic to chicken. If you only read the front of the bags you can be thinking you are helping your allergic dog when actually you are continuing to give him allergins which he is sensitive to.

I agree with the posters above, just like humans a dog can be allergic to anything. Also these allergies don't necessarily have to be present from puppyhood, they can develope later on. And as said above the most common food that dogs are allergic to is corn, because cheap foods contain large amounts of this and dogs aren't made for eating it.
