What is the apparent difference between a maltichon and a coton de tulear?

I have a four month old beautiful coton de tulear however i don;t have papers for her. I got her from a pet store (was referred to by my in-laws and didn't do much research before buying her) She looks very much like a maltese, so i got genetic testing done and got the result maltese + bischon. I am curious to know if a purebred coton can be tested or if we have yet to find a sure way to do breed verification in the absence of papers.

Yep. That's not surprising.
This is where YOUR dog came from:

Please DON'T support this industry again. You can get a very well bred, maybe even show quality Purebred for less than you paid for your mutt. (No offense, but I call all mixed breeds mutts.)
If you buy from a good breeder, you get health testing done, health guarantees, etc and all the good stuff.
Cotons are rare. Your dog is probably a mutt. I'm sorry for the disappointment, but that's what you get when you buy from a pet store. Please don't take offense to this, I'm just very curious, but, how did you NOT do research before buying her? It's not like a stuffed toy that you can throw away, it's a living breathing ANIMAL. I'm sorry, but when you see this, you'll understand why I'm upset. You just supported this:
