I most certainly would use one if we were going boating with Deogie.
When we had our cottage my older dog, 10 years old at that time, tried to swim out to us while we were in the canoe, we were yelling at him to go back but he wasn't listening. He was getting tired and I knew he wasn't going to make it back to shore. We paddled like heck to get to him, we jumped in and helped him back to shore. He never entered the water after that, the poor thing. I would have purchased one for him but he was completely done with the water, he always hated the boat so he stayed on the shore. I honestly should have thought of one before this happened but sometimes you don't think of the dangers until you are faced with the possibilities.
Have a good one.

Unless it's a small pond or shallow water I would use one. UNdertows are very dangerous, plus ropes & other garbage lying around can get tangled in your dog's paws. Although Shaka looks like a lab (and probably is) even with the great legs to swim with I wouldn't take a chance.

I would and did. Milo isn't thrilled about it but we haven't gotten on a boat yet this year- a favorite pastime for him! I think it's a good idea for these reasons:
• If the boat crashed and the dog has to swim but cannot hold out the jacket can keep him/her afloat until the dog gathers enough strength to swim more.
• Milo will swim on me sometimes, causing me to have trouble. If this is the case with you, you can hold onto the life vest and keep afloat without hurting your dog.
• Your dog is easily visible in the water with a bright jacket on so that can protect the dog from harm.
Happy swimming!
