My dog eats rubber toys, stuffed toys, rugs, paper, grass, stuffing from his bed and anything else he could get his mouth on. What can I give him to play with that he would not eat.
Get a big rubber Kong. My shepherds were great chewers, best leather shoes, fur coats, furniture legs, tree branches....whatever. Then I found the biggest Kong chew toy. It was one toy they couldn't destroy. They lose them in the woods sometimes, but every spring they'd find it again. I kept several of them handy. Love Kongs! Stuff them with treats and peanut butter, freeze them, run them through the dishwasher. Best chew toy ever.
Oh yeah, once they had the Kongs, they stopped destroying everything else.

Yup, kongs are great. Dogs have been known to destroy them so watch carefully at first! The way they yield when chewed is very satisfying for dogs. Buy big and maybe just get the black super strong one.
There are large balls meant for lions and horses that are impossible to destroy. Well the lion cubs can but not dogs. Might look into that sort of thing, Boomer ball is one kind.
Might also try feeding him with a food puzzle toy so he gets the fun of banging a toy around and eating the bits that fall out. Kong makes a couple that work for my dogs. Feeding from a bowl twice a day is boring for many dogs. Zoos have been using food puzzles for enrichment for years.
Might also find some natural chewies he can eat like bully sticks, dried tendons and tracheas as that is what he wants to do.

The black kong, when he starts chewing the grass, throw the kong that is a postive way to breaking his grass obsession.
If he is a german shepherd he will upchoke the grass as their stomach can be over sensitive to grass.

Many dogs aren't interested in a slick, new Nylabone. I think they are putting the nubby texture on more of them now. I think it is part of the reason so many dogs like the hard to find dinosaur ones. The ultimate is the Souper Size Galileo Nylabone. It is about 7 inches long and 3 inches around. It has the slick surface. They are more attractive if you rough up the surface with sand paper or by rubbing it on a concrete floor. Another technique is to jam a Nylabone into a Kong creating what I call a twofer. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
