Tapeworms

My dog has tapeworms and he has been pooping in the house where before this he hadn't popped in the house once since we've had him (only 2 weeks and he is 7 month old rescue dog). Could the tapeworms be causing him to have trouble controlling his bowels? OR is he pooping in the house to act out? He has pooped in the house the past two nights while we were sleeping. He was in the room with us, he pooped in two different spots once in the bedroom (where we saw the worms) and the night before in the hallway outside the bedroom. We crate him all day (8 hours) while we are gone and so like to leave him out at night and for the past week we've had no problems with the bathroom issue. He normally poops twice a day on his morning and evening walk and the past two nights he's pooped an additional time in the house. Is it the worms? Or is he acting out? Should we crate him again at night? We know he can hold his bowels becuase he is fine during the day and had been fine at night. help!

Muffins

Have you given him a de-wormer? That could cause him to need to poop more.

I think he is not housebroken.
I think he needs someone to come two times a day to let him out to poo/ and pee.
Also to play with him for at least 1/2 hr while you are at work as well.
In the evening take him outside and play.
The running about and playing is going to help flush him out.
Also put up a gate in the kitchen for night time to stretch out, give him a kong to chew on and some other toys too. provide a bed, and the two things he needs a small amount of food and a bowl of fresh water, a pee pad also if needed.
The dog is too young to be locked up for 8 solid hours.

You need to take him to the vet to get a wormer specifically for tape worms. While you are there, you should get a fecal done to make sure he doesn’t have other typed of worms. 8 hours is too long to be left in a crate, especially for a puppy.

You need to get someone to come and let him out at least once while you are gone. He probably isn’t fully housebroken, and keeping him crated for so many hours a day isn’t helping him learn where he should do his business.
Remember, your first responsibility, as a pet owner, is to meet your animal’s basic needs both physical and emotional.

Your dog isn’t “acting out” Praise him highly every time he goes potty outside and if necessary, take him out during the night, at least until he is a little older. Unless you catch him going in the house, do not scold or punish him for the mess. (He won’t understand and it will only confuse him)

If you see him start to go in the house a loud “bad dog” and then rush him out the door. Praise him for finishing his business outside. You have only had him for two weeks, you will also need to give him time to get to know you and learn the routines.
