I'm an avid chewer. I've managed to destroy every toy i get my teeth on. I've been given a puppy kong (it didn't stand a chance), frozen ropes and towels (i keep trying to eat the fabrics and get pieces off), nylon bones (lasted the longest but also didn't stand a chance).
Is it alright to give me toys for an adult dog? Like the black kong? Any other suggestions for some toys i can get my teeth on would be greatly appreciated.
When I came home with my new family I weighed only 9 pounds. I'm 1/2 Border Collie, 1/2 German Shpherd so I was pretty tough for my size. I could gouge tracks in the big beef bones the adult dogs let me chew on. I had a couple of huge stuffed toys, bigger than me, Mom says I killed them quickly and she won't let me have another. I was allowed a huge Rawhide bone until I was able to chew parts off it (party poopers). The Best toy Mom got me to chew on is an Antler. A real antler! It smells interesting and feels different, it's a good chew too.
We have a foster dog staying with us, she keeps taking my stuff. I don't like sharing, but I like her company, she's more fun than Snickers to play with.

I don't see anything wrong with trying the black kong either. Also you could try the compressed rawhide like another poster stated and once Taz starts getting pieces off you could take it away.
Sorry for not being much help! Good luck finding a toy that lasts! :D Let us know if you find anything that lasts!

puppy kongs are really soft and they can be destroyed easily.
I would move up to the size for your dog, you will want to go a little bigger for him since he will be getting big fast, try the red kong for now in say the Large size.
There is also the red ball large kong brand, it does not have that domed top to chew off it is a regular looking ball with big bouncing ability if bounced on hard surfaces.
The black kong is the toughest one they make, it is for adult hard core chewers but be aware the top can be chewed off, the package says to supervise dog.
For teething pups I have used ice cubes, not all the time but often during the day to ease sore gums., good luck.

Yes, go to adult toys. The bigger, the longer they last. With a new puppy every year, we bring out the smaller stuff, but leave the big stuff out. The puppy is allowed to chew what it wants. We do have to pick up the small stuff when we have larger guests. As anything gets down close to where the dog could gulp it down, it should disappear.
The ultimate is the Souper Size Galileo Nylabone. It is about 7 inches long and 3 inches around. It has the slick surface. They are more attractive if you rough up the surface with sand paper or by rubbing it on a concrete floor. Another technique is to jam a Nylabone into a Kong creating what I call a twofer. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

I used to buy big dog biscuits and carry them along on our walks. That way if a dog did come running and seemed mean i would toss a biscuit behind them and it would distract them for a minute, giving me the chance to back away. Some dogs aren't interested in bones though so be careful.
