Should I be feeding my Tiffy once or twice a day?

I was told that once is enough, but now maybe not. I feed Tiffy in the morning before I go to work which is at about 5:30 in the morning. She eats a whole can of food each time. Over the past couple of days, while playing with her when I come home from work, I think that I hear her stomach growling like she is hungry. I say I think because I have never heard it before and also she is in heat, so I'm not sure if it is her stomach cramping or something. Do you think she is hungry? On some days, she does get to eat again if I decide to cook and eat dinner for myself. But that's not too often. (Please don't bash me for not having her fixed. She will be sometime soo. I am not looking to breed her at all)

I always feed my dogs twice a day. It helps promote a healthy metabolism, as well as eating habits. Imagine if you only ate once a day? It is important for dogs to eat twice, so you should split up her food between breakfast and dinner. She could be hungry, definitely, and I don't think it has anything to do with her being in heat. Try feeding her two meals and see how she does.

I always split Deogies food into 2 meals. Breakfast and then I feed him when I am having my supper.

it depends, if she barely plays and is mostly laying weather she finished her food or not once daily. ,If she is small and is running and playing , skinny,her food twice than feed her one more time but, only feed her one pound of food. thanks. If that is happining too no doubt that she needs more food. If her nose is dry i would be fast to take her to the vet.

Well, you should feed your dog twice a day but if you feed your dog once a day you should feed her a large amount. I reccomend feed her twice a day, about a medium amount. I'd say feed her in the mornings and then feed her again in the afternoon if you can. Thats the way I fed my dogs. My dad says feed animals a small amount twice a day but I go by the book. I don't listen to my dad. I know a lot about dogs even though I am only a 9 year old. Hope this helps! By the way, Tiffy is really cute.

Yes, feed twice a day. I give Tiger 1/2 can of Nutro Max in the morning mixed with 1/2 cup of Nutro Natural Choice, 3 Nutro Ultra biscuits in the afternoon, and raw meat for dinner.

Read the bag of dog food, it will say there. If she has a high active level then I would feed her twice a day.

At least twice a day. Since you are probably going to change, because of the other answers, call your vet, tell him or herthe schedule and amount of food you had Tiffy on and inform him or her you are changing. Ask what amounts to start out the new schedule with and to graduate to what amounts. And fixed or not fixed is not a real issue. I have had a couple of dogs in the past that were not fixed, as I was undecided to breed or not. I just kept good control of the dog, and all was well. So not to worry. Bon Apetite to Tiffy..

I will be the one to disagree with the majority here. I think barring conditions like hypoglycemia or conditions where the dog needs to to take food with timed medication, once a day is fine.

I can direct you to an article on how dog's stomachs work - - people too often compare human's digestive tracts to a dog's..... they are not alike at all so comparing them and using that as a reason to feed several times a day, IMO, is not valid. I would suggest whatever you typically feed her in one day, just divide that amount into two-times per day. Half of the current morning meal in the morning, and the remaining amount when you come home. Since she's also in heat, this can be taxing for her; so her nutrional intake may need to be augmented. Also, if she's very active outside playing, running, etc., it's much better to feed twice a day and AFTER her run time.

Glad to hear you'll soon spay that lovely little doll - it irradicates the occurence of several reproproductive-type cancer and health disorders.

i feed my dogs twice onice at i think like 6:00am and one at about 5:00pm

I have always found that a dog who gets fed only once a day is a hungry dog. We eat several times a day, why should she have to wait 24 hours? I split the food up into two servings and they seem happy. Good luck!
