Shaving poodle ears?

I kind of want to shave Desmond's ears down, but I'm not decided yet. I want to know how for future reference though.
The ears are so thin and delicate, I don't want to hurt him if I shave them. Any specific way to shave the ears safely?

Many owners who want to groom their Poodles themselves usually have this problem. First of all, you need to make sure Desmond does not move. This may take weeks to months to train him to stay in a position to safely shave his ears. Also, use treats so that he's not tempted to bite at, or be scared of, the razor.

Poodle owners sometimes try to groom their Poodles themselves. However, Poodles are one of the most expensive dogs to groom (along with the Bichon Frise), and if you don't have the money to groom a Poodle and properly groom him or her yourself, you shouldn't have gotten one. This is just a reminder to you, and any other Poodles out there. Paw mail me with any more questions! Hope this helps! POODLES RULE!!!!!

Lots of Licks,

As a poodle breeder and a professional groomer I disagree with the previous answer. Poodles are no more expensive to groom than any other coated dog of the same size. If having the dog professionally groomed is too expensive, most owners can learn to groom the dog themselves. There are plenty of books that will take you through the entire process. However, it is important to remember that decent grooming equipment is probably going to cost more than 2 year's worth of professional grooming and needs to be kept clean, sharpened and oiled.
As for shaving your guy's ears... just be very, very careful!!! Ears are very soft and very easy to cut and they bleed like crazy!!! Always go with the hair growth, and be sure to make sure there are no matts in the ears before you begin to shave them. Be especially careful when you scissor the edges... not only is cutting them going to be messy, but it's painful and he will likely not let you do it again if you hurt him!
