Any suggestions about dog parks?

I own a powerful, large breed male. Who is very friendly & well trained. I brought him to the dog park & all was great. Until Dog#1(older male lab) entered with hair up on back. When my dog approached him the lab became aggressive as well as with other dogs. The owner was no where in sight. Then Dog#2 muzzled large breed male. The owner eventually took the muzzle off & this dog became aggressive with my dog as well. The owner stated to us "he has a thing with un neutered males". To make a long story short we ended up leaving b/c my dog had enough of these two & I know my dog could have hurt them after being provoked. I don't want to deprive my dog of the dog park because he really enjoys it. Any suggestions?

ASKED BY

My dog has severe hip problems... he gets walked for 4 miles in the morning and then just a stroll in the evenings. He seems to do ok and I know that walking is good for him... I just don't want to over do it.
As for his weight... he is very large for a golden retreiver so I can't go by the breed standard. I can feel his ribs easily but not see them.. the only thing is I can't see a clear defined waist, almost none at all. I'm thinking thats fur because when he gets wet you can see his waist. Please look at his pictures and tell me what you think.
thanks a ton,

Tips for traveling to Niagara Falls through Canada?

I am traveling to Niagara Falls in early June for my sister's wedding. I am thinking about bringing Kiara but was wondering how dog-friendly Niagara Falls is on the American side. Are dogs allowed anywhere in the park? How easy is it to travel with dogs across the border (will likely be driving through Canada)? Any other tips/tricks for the area or dog-friendly hotel/motel recommendations? Also, I'm thinking of staying in a hotel in Canada even though the wedding is on the American side. Any thoughts/suggestions?

ASKED BY

What's the best tie-out method?

We're going to visit the in-laws at Christmas; they live in the country, with lots of acreage, and no fencing - and they will not allow our new dog indoors; not even in the garage.

We'll be there just over a week, and would prefer not to board her or leave her behind. She's a Boxer/Boston Terrier mix (is more Boxer than Boston), and slips her collar easily, so what would be the best tie-out method? Collar? Harness? Retractable tie-out? I don't think an aerial trolley is an option (no trees near the house).

Edit: Asking early so I can be prepared, should additional training be necessary. Also, she's crate-trained and would have access to it (covered) at all times. It doesn't get all that cold where we're going, and she'd be crated on the covered porch at night.

Edit 2: Town is over 30 miles away, can't afford 5+ nights at nearest hotel. Just need to know the best tie-out method for our situation.

ASKED BY
