To Guest 404377 who asked what BSL is

BSL is short for Breed-Specific Legislation. It is the banning of certain breeds because of their being perceived as a threat.
BSL is impractical, for several reasons. (1) It is how a dog is raised, trained, and socialized that shapes the greater part of it's temperament, not it's breed. To say that a dog is aggressive simply based on it's breed is nothing short of racism. (2) BSL does not work. People disobey the laws all the time, and more laws will not make a poodoo of difference to them. Dog fighting, for example, is against the law, yet some people still do it. (What DOES work is a dangerous dog ordinance, which does not target any specific breed.

For more reasons as to why BSL is a piece of bantha fodder, please see:
pitbulllovers.com
thetruthaboutpitbulls.com

I am a proud member of ABLE (All Breeds Live Equally), a group of people fighting against BSL, and this group was started by Dogster members last year.

Okay, Let`s say I wanted to adopt a dog, but its in America. We can drive, but is it illegal to bring a dog into Canada?

What if that dog was a Pit Bull cross? We would be driving into Ontario, and as you may know, Ontario has BSL in effect. (STUPID BSL!) Can you lie about the breed? ;D
This one could pass for a Mastiff mix. I really like him, but he is in Buffalo! I could drive there, but I don`t think they would let us back in!
Here`s his PetFinder profile:
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13950665
What about in Rochester?
Thank you!

If it's not registered as a pit bull, can you still get fined?

When we got my puppy no one really knew what she was. The older she's gotten, the more we've come to the conclusion that she's a pit bull cross. She is registered as a terrier mix to the city. At the pound they don't seem to support the BSL at all. They openly told us that they register most pits they get as lab crosses.
We are supposed to muzzle and leash at all times when in public with her, but she despises anything on her nose. She still always tries to get her halti off.

My question is; although she looks like a pit bull at times, but isn't registered as one, can we be fined for not following the BSL?

ASKED BY
