Wanting advice on becoming a groomer

I posted this on the Grooming forum and haven't gotten many responses. I have always wanted to work with animals in some way and so i am looking into the grooming field. I am wanting to start this in the first of the year. I am looking into some distance schooling and will starting out part time until i get the hang of it. I will eventually make this my career and will open my own salon. Basically i am looking for some advice on how to get started. Also any recommendations on schooling will be great. I know this isn't the easiest field of work but i believe i can handle it i am just wanting some input from my peers along with the research i am doing.

Pomeranian had to have her sheared. It has changed her personality totally. She was cut by a professional groomer.

She will be a year old next month . Has any one else had this problem? She had to be cut because of mats where I broke my arm and she would not let me brush her

I have heard pros and cons for trimming (not shaving) White Shepherd. any thoughts?

One school of thought states that since the shepherd's coat is so THICK , trimming it to make it shorter is just counter-productive. Anyone had any positive experiences with this? Do we really know if the dog is more comfortable and likes it?

Because my maltese was 'in jail' for 2 mos., his coat is now unbearable. Can I have him completely shaved?

I've heard that thick haired dogs are cooler in the hot summer if you leave their hair thick and long. His mats are horrible now and I will not put him through the painful comb outs. Can I have him completely shaved and start all over again? Evelyn Garrett

How long does it take for a Shih Tzu to grow back her hair?

I took my Shih Tzu to a groomer to be groomed. She was matted on her back. When I picked her up she was completed shaved...tail and all. I was completely upset. I paid the groomer and left.

Australian Shepherd hair care? Should their long hair be clipped in warm weather or left uncut yearound?

I've been told NOT to cut hair short but I see it done all the time. I've read that they have a double coat: a soft "down" layer under the long hair "overcoat". This down layer protects them from heat and cold. We need an expert opinion.

How much fur should I leave on Jasper when I get his hair cut?

I love having fur on him, and I know it keeps them warm/cold depending on the weather but I also don't want to have him get all knotted. He is a yorkie/maltese cross and I brush him every day (or every second day) and I've noticed recently he is still getting very matted so I wanted to cut his hair just to a length where it wont get as matted as fast. Any suggestions?
