arlowe licks other dogs in the mouth?

arlowe greets dogs with a lick in the mouth. everytime he sees the dog whether its the same one or a different one. i think its just his way of greeting them. but, i worry because everydog he meets he does this to and everydog HATES it. my dogs growl but don't go any further then that. but licking a strange dog he doesn't know in the mouth could be a problem. what can i do to stop this behavior? he is a pittie/ lab mix. he LOVES other dogs.

ASKED BY

Attention Starved?

i have 2 dogs and 2 questions. I have a 2 year old (Hobbes) and a 10 month old (Locke). when i go to give Hobbes attention Locke runs in and gets in between us. Hobbes will back off, start barking, and start to chase Locke around the house. when locke comes jumping in i have to stop petting hobbes and ignore them both until they calm down. Suggestions?

It's funny, when they play fight Locke will go for a leg and Hobbes will go for an ear. it never gets serious, but it's gets annoying because Hobbes has a high pitched bark.

When i am sitting on the couch playing video games or on my laptop, Hobbes will sit in front of me and bark until she doesn't have any left in her. her other method of attention grabbing is to jump on the couch and wedge herself between me and the other item. i can get her to stop by playing with her, but i know this isn't the right thing to do. If Locke has had enough she will go and give Hobbes a swat and then go back and lay down. Suggestions?

ASKED BY

How do I get my chocolate lab to stop making such a mess when he drinks from his bowl?

Don't get me wrong, he doesn't turn over his bowl, or lap his water all over the walls...he will dip his head to drink (like most dogs) and will lift his head right after drinking and walk all over the entire house with water streaming from his mouth. It's almost like he won't wait until he's done drinking to swallow his water. Now, his sister, our other choco lab Shelby, drinks just fine, and even licks her muzzel to remove the remaining water droplets (we were hoping he would pick up on this), but NOOO, not Henry, he likes to make pools of water all over the house, I'm talking like 25 foot of water. I didn't know he could hold that much in his mouth to begin with, let alone let fall out of his mouth. We now put down paper towels all around his bowl and he'll walk right over them and tread water...PLEASE HELP US!!!

ASKED BY

Stanley Coren; Opinions?

Your opinion. If it's too long, feel free the PM me!
Do you think it would be worth buying his book? I was reading though it at the book store when he said that a cuddly Rottweiler was being dominant. I put it down after that.
;)
~ Rosie
Please note that while I believe dominance has it's place in the world of dogs, I don't agree with people who label everything as a dominance problem.
Thanks!

ASKED BY
