Prong Collar or Halti?

I need help making a decision.. Daegan hasn't learned to stop jumping on people or how to walk on a leash yet. (he came to me completely untrained..) I've been working with him on trying to teach him how to stay down and not pull on walks, but he's so strong and it's getting harder to train him the bigger he gets. I've tried a spray bottle to get him to stop jumping (one quick spray with water gets him down), and it works, but it still doesn't stop him from pulling on walks. His "anti-pull" body/chest harness doesn't work either. I heard prong collars are good for jumping and pulling, but they look painful... My mother suggested the Halti/head collar, but does the halti keep a dog from jumping as well as pulling? Your input is greatly appreciated! :)

EDIT: Thank you Milo! I just wanted to add that I've tried ignoring him when he jumps (turning around so as not facing him), but it doesn't work. He'll still jump until my arms and legs are covered in his scratches. :(

ASKED BY

molly is VERY food obsessed! when we eat we do not eat at the table..we eat on the couches. molly will sit and beg and beg. we say back up until she is at least 3 feet from us, then tell her to sit. she does well for about 2 mins then she comes closer and begs. then when we are least expecting it she lunges and steels things away from our plates. it is 'impossible' to push her away because she is so strong and determined. she does this to anyone including family or perfect strangers. she is also a counter surfer..including one incident 2days ago when she counter surfed and got pork chop bones! i really don't know what to do! i need advice, and info on how to stop her! PS, we rarely give her human food. THANX!!

ASKED BY

Clicker Method - not understanding commands and doing everything!!

I am just learning basic commands and already know "sit". We just started clicker training and maybe I'm over excited and a little confused by this fun new way of learning things.

I know some actions that get clicks, but do not seem to be connecting the word with the action. In fact, when Mom says "sit" or "down" I will put my rump down, pause, and then lay down. I am so excited I want to do ALL the actions at once so I get clicked! It's fun, but a little confusing.

Has anyone else had this same problem or is anyone very familiar with the method so they could make some suggestions? We have tried focusing on one word at a time and then adding another, but we end up at the same place.

Any suggestions to help Mom and me understand eachother better?

ASKED BY
