CoCo has been at the vet for several months.

CoCo has been at the vet for several months because I have been looking for us a place to live but I have gone to see him and even taken him out a few times for a ride with momma & he always gives me 'CoCo Kisses' I've brought him some pillows that he use to lay on when we had our old place and one day we went to Pet Smart and I bought him a 'tug-a-rope'. Everytime I go see him and one of the attendants brings him out he just about pulls their arms out getting to me. It makes me feel really good. He's 4 1/2 and will be 5 on Christmas Day so I think he's at an age now where he won't forget me & when we do go home we'll just sorta fall right back into our routine that we had before everything went to mudville.

ASKED BY

Fear aggression as they get older

I have a 15 month Saint Bernard and as he is getting older he is becoming more afraid of strangers. I take him for a walk 5 days a week and he is trained to walk beside me. He is also trained to sit, stay, down, stay, come. Quinn will do anything for me. But when we go for a walk he becomes very fearful. The older he is getting the worse it is. I want to help but don't know how. I also have a 5 yr old saint female that goes for walks with us too. She is fearful also but in the opposite way. She walks calmly but other dogs will attack her because she always has her head lowered in a fearful position. How do I change them? I walk everyday...I don't understand the fear. It is in every place we go. Not just our neighborhood, but parks, etc. Not one place over another either. I am a calm assertive walker. I don't look for trouble. I react when it gets there. Please Help! Thanks for all your help ahead of time.

ASKED BY

i have a 1 1/2 yr old long haired mini chihuahua who was startled by a mouse the other day. he was not bitten but i think it squeaked at him and ran towards him or over his paw somewhere around my living room area. he is usually a playful, sociable dog but is now terrified of my other dogs or people(except for my roommate and myself), he doesnt want to play, or walk around on the floor. he puts his ears back as if he is scared and he huddles in a corner and wont come when called and starts to shake violently until i go pick him up and hold him in my lap...which he will not move out of unless i pick him up and place him somewhere else. as long as he is in my lap or sitting by me he seems fine. i love my dog as if he were my child and i dont know what i can do to help bring him out of his traumatized state. can anyone please help me im desperate to have my lil dog back

ASKED BY

I have a little 20lb dog and their was a family with their child holding the leash of this at least 100lb dog, their dog went crazy and ran for my dog and his teeth snarling at him so I knew he wanted to attack Ein, so I let go of Eins leash and he ran home which is on a busy street. Now I'm afraid of this happening again because it not the first time its ever happened.but it was another persons dog last time.

I am really wound up because I was so afraid of Ein getting bitten or ran over by a car. The dog is now afraid to even move from his bed, what should i do ?

ASKED BY

She is a blackmouth cur/mountain cur (I'm not quite sure about the mountain cur part) and she is six. My whole family hunts and when we went camping, she was treeing squirrels like there was no tomorrow. Now I kind of want her to hunt :>.Anyways, when there is even just a thunderstorm, she shakes and drools and whimpers. Also, when she sees a big thing (gun, bow, deer head, guitar) coming toward her she cries and whimpers. What should I do?

ASKED BY

got a two yr. old Lhasa two weeks ago. she has been abused, traumatized. jumps and shakes at any move or sound.

What can I do to help her? She hides, will not come, is barely eating, I thought yesterday that we were making progress, but today she is hiding under the table and refuses to come. I sit on the floor and eventually she will come, but she cowers and cringes everytime I try to pet her. I can tell she wants to be friendly, but she is terrified. I feel I'm in over my head. What can I do? How long will it take? Will we be able to overcome this or are some dogs so traumatized they never get comfortable again? It is like she has PTSD. She looks at me with those big Lhasa eyes, but hers are either vacant or so very sad. My last Lhasa's eyes were sparkly and teasing. This dog will not even bark and Lhasas usually bark. Is this doable?

ASKED BY

Air Show for the next 5 days. My dog has a really rough time. Any ideas?

An Air Show started today and will be going on daily until Monday, with a variety of very loud jets flying over the house for a good portion of the day.

Charlie has a rough time with the noise. She just wants to stay next to me. Shaking terribly. I have made a number of hiding spots for her around the apartment.

I am timing her trips outside between jets because she gets very anxious if she is outside when a jet flies over, no matter how calm I stay.

I don't want to feed in to her fears, but I don't want to undermine her need to go to a safe place. Any tips?

She is a well behaved dog... usually good with thunderstorms etc.

PS. This is giving me tremendous compassion for the plight of animals in war zones!

ASKED BY
