How do I stop an oral fixation in a young female pitbull mix?

She doesn't "bite", she just has to have something in her mouth at all times, a ball, the leash, or someone's hand/arm, doesn't matter she has to have something in her mouth. How do I stop that habit? I can't adopt her from the shelter if she's going to chew up the house. I had a Golden for 17 years with an oral fixation, we just gave her a giant rubber "nippy" to chew on. She never went anywhere without it! Is that what I should do or is there a way to "fix" this problem?
Thanks

What is the most effective way to teach my puppy not to bite my fingers, toes, foot, and clothes???

Hello, again.

I've got 9 weeks old Siberian Husky puppy.
since she's teething, she loves to bite my&my husband's fingers, toes, and stuff.

We've tried yelling quite loud, saying "No, Stop, Nahhhhh" bunch of times, which doesn't work.
We even snapped on her nose and spanked on her butt lightly...(doesn't even hurt her!)

Anything I mentioned above didn't work so far.
Is it because we were not persistent with the methods and didn't discipline her for a long time??

And my hubby wants to try a different way to get her stop by placing her in the crate and ignore her for about 5 minutes. Just like a time out.

Do you think it would work??
I desperately need to stop her biting us.
She growls and bite pretty hard, and gave me a few scratches on my chest and the back of my hands.

I would really appreciate your help with this puppy!
Thank you so much!!!

P.S. What method above is detrimental to the puppy?
I would never want to hurt my puppy in any way.

ASKED BY

We recently rescued a Border Collie/Bull Terrier mix. They think she is around 18mos. Whenever she is not getting attention she chews everything! We tried Bitter Apple but she liked it and it made matters worse! We do keep her in a crate when at work, but whatever is in the crate gets destroyed, from the mattress pad, to soft pillow. I want her to be comfortable but I cant put anything in it. Even if I am in a different room she jumps on counters/couches and chews! What can we do besides keeping her in a crate all the time!?

ASKED BY

10 month old Great Pyrenees chewing furniture, wood trim, wood window blinds
and her dog beds

HELP. How do I stop my 10 month old Great Pyr enees female from destructive chewing anddestroying my house during the day when I'm not home? I have tried spraying every single no chew spray and also tried vinegar, but she likes the stuff and keeps chewing. She wrecks every pillow and dog bed, eats furniture, window trim and wood blinds, even though the house is full of dog chew toys, ropes, kongs filled with treats, etc. We also have another dog, a 6 year rottweiler famale for her to play with so I don't think she's bored. I have started crating her during the day when I am not home and this has stopped her for the time being, but how about when she outgrows the crate which is rated for 110 lbs (she is currently 110 lbs and still growing). Is there a certain approx. age when a dog stops reckless chewing on house items? I think she is suffering from separation anxiety because she is perfect when I am home in the evenings and on weekends when I am home.

ASKED BY

Why does my dog nibble us like she's eating corn on the cob?

So my dog is about a year old. Not sure what breed because she's a mix. Recently, she's been "nibbling" my family constantly. The only thing is, she doesn't only do it to family members, she does it to blankets, couches, etc. It's annoying, and I tell her "no", but she goes right back to nibbling whatever it is that she was nibbling before I said it, like nothing really happened.
Does anybody know the reason why she does this?

{I've read that puppies usually do this when playing, but I'm not so sure she's just playing.}

ASKED BY

My young dog loves ripping paper! How can I get her to stop?

My 10-month old Golden Ret. has a sort of funny problem. I believe I know how to solve this but my friend tells me that I'm wrong and that dogs are "simple thinkers and hunters" and not as smart as I imagine.

Her (my) problem is that she LOVES to rip paper! She doesn't eat it, just tears it up. Doesn't matter what kind of paper, but unfortunately it is usually opened mail or a paperback book lying around.

Since the paper material is generally something of importance, I chase after her in an attempt to salvage it then put it somewhere she can't reach it. I suspect she does this for some extra attention and because she wants me to play the chase game with her. My friend says nope, dogs do it only to satisfy their hunting instinct!

My idea is to leave some blank printer paper around then ignore her when she tears it up and perhaps paper will become boring to her. Friend says, “It won’t work and you will make it worse.”

Dog owners & experts? Trainers? What do YOU think?

I have a 6mo chihuahua mix and a 7mo whippet mix , both of which are crated. I am home most of the time with them so they get plenty of supervised play time and we go on walks regularly. They also have plenty of interactive toys for their crates (congs, treat dispensing toys, etc). The problem is they both love to get the stuffing out of everything, they get into stuffed toys in seconds and every bed I've given them they get into (despite my soaking them in bitter apple spray). I'm at my wits end. I would like them to have a bed at least at night because it gets cold and both are short haired and get cold easily. Any suggestions or recommendations for indestructible beds would be appreciated.

ASKED BY
