Some dog breed suggestions for agility?

Yup...I am looking for an agility dog. I am going to get one as a puppy, and would really appreciate some breed suggestions from some agility handlers.

This will be the first puppy I'm raising and also my first agility dog. Please no "rescue/adopt" suggestions--I'm all for it, beleive me, I'm just looking for a purebred puppy that I will raise for an agility companion. I'm putting a lot of thought and effort into this, so any suggestions would be grrrreatly appreciated!

What do I look for in a second dog?

We have been considering getting a second dog. We have a very spoiled pooch that needs to learn to share our attention, and we would like him to have a playmate while we're at work. He is a 3 yr old male toy poodle mix. He is not aggressive towards other dogs, but isn't excited about them either. Occasionally he'll play with my friend's yorkie, but he seems scared and annoyed by hyper puppies. At dog parks and pups on the patio he is more concerned with being loved on by the humans. He's definitely not submissive or timid. Do I look for a dog with his same personality? Or one that is submissive and timid to compliment his personality? HELP!

ASKED BY

Should we adopt a second dog - follow-up!

Hi everyone! Not a question, but an update on the question I asked in December: http://www.dogster.com/answers/question/should_we_adopt_a_second_dog-23923

So, after 10 months of unemployment, during which time I did not want to commit to a second dog, I am now working and have just adopted a "little brother" for Katie: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/1028634

Thanks to all six Dogsters who responded to the original question! Rupert is settling in well, and Katie is doing a great job as a "big sister." They love to play, and when Rupert gets too rambunctious, Katie acts like a good mother dog and makes him settle down.

If you have any guesses as to Rupert's breed, I'd love to hear them. I know very little about breeds other than German Shepherds, but most people think he's at least part Pit Bull. He is learning basic obedience, and plays well with other dogs, so I'm hoping he'll prove to be an excellent ambassador for his breed(s). Thanks!

ASKED BY

I have a 3 year old papillon mix named Oreo. I rescued her when she was about a year old. She has come a long way with her social skills but still has some fear aggression if dogs get too close to her. Oreo does fine on walks and when we pass dogs as long as they are at least five feet away. We are still working on getting closer. Oreo has been living with a yorkie, Candy, for the past two years but Candy died earlier this year. I have tried to she if she can adapt to life as an only dog for the past six months but she is not as happy as she was with her friend around. I tried an intro at the humane society with a very calm, submissive male dog (neutered). She growled at first. Then about a minute later she sniffed his rear and decided she didn't like him which she showed by growling and trying to nip when he moved closer to her. So I left without him. Would it be easier for Oreo to get a puppy or should I keep trying to find a dog she gets along with, would a female dog be better?

ASKED BY

My family wants to adopt a Pug sister for me to play with. Since I'm obviously a boy, I think I'd like a sister better than a brother. Can someone tell them how to find the best match for me? Can they do anything before committing to another pet to ensure it will be the right sister for me? FYI-they spay/neuter every animal that graces their home, so there is no concern in having a sister, because that is exactly what she'll be - my sister.

ASKED BY

Hi,
I have 3 dogs out of which 2 are 10 and 8 yrs old. The youngest one is just one year old. I’m planning to add new dog to my pack. All of them are well mannered trained and quite laid back. They go for their one hour walk daily and though I have a huge backyard they just play for about an hour everyday and sleep rest of the time. So m looking for dog who is freindly and easy going with other breeds. I would prefer a medium size dog who is laid back like my other dogs , as i don't think i can manage a high energy breed. Please suggest which breed would be good for me. All my dogs are mixed breed and are rescued from different countries so m not very sure about their breed.
