My foster girl is a flight risk, how can I help?

She was raised w/17 other dogs and had never been outside or socialized; she's 1 year old. She is afraid of going out for walks or car rides to the park, plus is very afraid of strangers. We have lost her twice, because she jerked the lead out of my hands; ran and hid. She does really well inside the house but trying to take her out is a very scary thing for her.

ASKED BY

i am getting a 8 week old beagle puppy and will be gone at work for 8-10 hours. does anyone have any advice?

i plan on setting up baby gates so she has 10-15 square feet to move around in with toys, peepee pad, food and water, and a crate. i plan on walking her 2 hours a day and letting her play in a puppy park everyday to tire her out. is this a good setup and if not what is? my girlfriend and i are not very keen on letting a sitter come in and do not have many friends in the area. we realize she is not gonna be able to hold it for 10 hours and are prepared to deal with the mess until we can rearrange our schedules. i have taken a week off from work and would also like suggestions on how to prepare her for being alone for the time we are at work. please do not suggest to not get this puppy because we are determined to make this work.

ASKED BY

And also when I put them in the gated laundry room. I tried just letting him whine one day and he whined for a whole hour nonstop. I then took him outside to the kennel. He is fine at night in the gated room but any other time he whines. The only time I put him in the gated room is at night or when I am doing something (like sweeping the floors) that he won't allow me to do when he is out. I have a female basset also and she does not have the same whining behavior. HELP!!!

ASKED BY

Shih tzu prefering one person in the family over everyone else

My 1 1/2 y/o Shih tzu will not leave my side from the time I get home until I leave in the morn. He follows me from room to room and sits at my feet wherever I am. He will sit by the door and await my return if I leave. He ignores my husband and children when I get home and wants nothing to do w/ anyone else. He is not aggressive. But it is irritating my family that he will not play w/ anyone else but me. My husband says he has never seen a dog take to one person like ours has. He is afraid he may become aggressive/over protective when he gets older. Should I be concerned about this behavior or is this normal?

ASKED BY

My 1 year old Shiba Inu won't stop peeing and pooping in the house. HELP!

Some weeks she won't pee in the house, others its every night.

We take her out at 6:30am, then lock her in the kitchen. I come home at 12:00 to take her out, then I get home at 4:30. She has pee pads in the kitchen but doesn't use them, she holds it. I take her out at 4:30 when I get home, 7:30 and 10:00. But she still pees in the house during that period and at night.

I know she can hold it, if I can't make it home at lunch, she will hold it for 8 hours and not even go on the pee pads in the kitchen. But as soon as she has free roam of the house, she does what she wants.

I give her treats outside when she goes, I take her to the dog park all the time to let her play and wear her out.

Please, anyone, suggestions. We are moving in a few weeks and don't want the carpet thrashed at our new apt.

Thanks!

I am sorry for asking so many questions. I guess it has something to do with having four dogs and two of them are pups.

Some of you know I have 4 dogs. Two are puppies, one actually just turned one. She has some very severe problems and they are getting worse. I have done a lot of reading and have come to realize that there may have been bad breeding. I was not involved with dogster at the time and not informed and bought her from a backyard breeder. I think that her problems may be from this as she really seems to be out of control. It breaks my heart because I do love her, one Vet said many dogs like this end up in shelters. Well I would never even consider this but I am wondering if there is anything at all I can do to help her?
My second question involves my other puppy who is opposite of the first. He is very loving, calm, and has a great disposition, however he has a nasty habit of doing his business on his paper the way he was trained but after wards he brings it on his bed. How can I break him of this? My organs were failing due to my meds and now my condition is getting worse. Please help me!

ASKED BY

Agression over treats

We have a six year old jack russell and four year old border collie. They have lived together for three years, and are usually inseparable. But two weeks ago, the collie attacked the terrier over a treat, and cut both of the terrier's ears. A similar incident happened three years ago when they first met, and the terrier needed stitches in one of his ears. Now the terrier growls when the collie gets too close and/or he pees.

The terrier is the alpha male of the relationship, and the collie is a very laid-back, submissive dog, so things are very strange in our house right now.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to help the terrier trust his "brother" again and how to train the collie to share?

THANK YOU!

ASKED BY
