Excessive licking of unmentionable areas. More a curiousity than a concern...

Sorry to be very to-the-point, but my spayed 1.5yo will just lick her anus and vagina for ten to fifteen minutes straight. This is frequently in the middle of the night or in the morning, and usually just when I'm sleeping (and it won't just be once a night sometimes.) Actually, she only does this in bed when shes right next to/on me (which is REALLY weird for me and a totally different question as to why.)

I understand cleanliness and all, but this is ridiculous, especially since it tends to wake me up with that disgusting licking sound.

She eats/behaves/potties fine, doesn't have the scoots/butt-chases, and is up on shots so I don't think its a worm/health issue, though I could be wrong. She just seems to really go to town happily, and not out of a strong need, since she's fine being interrupted (though she will continue when given the chance.)

ASKED BY

We adopted two 7-year-old mixed Brittanys and noticed unusual behavior. When walking them, if they stop along the side of a path, the will resume by first walking around behind you. Were they trained as hunting dogs (to avoid being in front of guns), or are they just weird?

ASKED BY

Seems like this guy is a REAL pro and has the correct philosophy. A DOG is a DOG and should be trained as such. I like the collar, I do believe it mimics the mother dogs gripping the pup's neck with her jaws, I think that is what he means. Like when a pup needs correction, I've seen it hundreds of times. I haven't seen his DVDs but just reading about him and his philosophy I think he's on to something.

ASKED BY

Doxie that licks ALL the time...

Hubby and I adopted the most adorable doxie from the humane society today. He is 3 years old and sweet and sweet can be! I am in love!! The biggest thing that I can see becoming a little annoying is that he constantly has to lick your fingers, face, nostrils, lips, ears or just about any other surface of skin that is immediately available to his lips.... LOL Dont get me wrong... I absolutely ADORE the kisses but I dont want him to be annoying to those who dont.

Is there a good way to keep his tounge in check?? We love that he is so affectionate, but when we say stop, we'd like to be able to mean it.. LOL

ASKED BY

Ok, I got my lab 2 weeks ago.. he's a year old... my cats are scared sh*&^ of him. They are so scared that they've stopped eating and I now have to feed them in another room while my dog is locked in my kitchen. I thought they would calm down after a week, but they haven't... I've now started a supervised intervention... I bring them all into the same room while I' m there with them for a half an hour... the cats hisss and growl at him, and seem to be calming down slowly, but they won't come out of hiding... mean while when he sees them he chases after them, and barks at them.. he thinks he's playing but the cats think other wise... What can I do to imporve or fix this problem.. the cats were here first after all.

ASKED BY

dog stealing sisters pups

We adopted two stray dogs. Have not much experience with dogs. Before we could get them spayed, one got preggy and had 8 pups. The sister stole 2 puppys and wont give them back - she growls if mom tries to get her pups back. So far we are feeding (my daughter is - she wont let adults near her) the stolen pups with a bottle and teat, They are thriving, we also got special food for the mums.

We tried separating the thief from pups - she pined, refused to eat andwas so distressed - we put her back - she stole them back. The puppies seem to like her.

I am confused. What do we do? Isnt it mean to take the pus away - she loves them.

ASKED BY

I have a 7yo male lab and my boyfriend has a 3yo chihuahua. They get along like best buddies outside of the house, but once my dog is on the chihuahua's "territory", the chihuahua becomes very territorial regarding food and people and nips at the lab and barks. My lab has now started to bark at us in frustration if the chihuahua is in the area. How do we get the two to get along, stop the lab from barking in frustration, stop the chihuahua from being so terriorial, and be fair to both dogs?

ASKED BY
