Broken radius and ulna in 3 YO hairless chinese crested, what to do when it seems the vet is pushing expensive surgery.

My hairless chinese crested broke his front right leg, radius and ulna clean through, but not through the skin and the uber expensive ER Vet suggests surgery (I am taking him to my regular vet tomorrow). Is surgery a must or is splinting and immobilizing for 6-8 weeks sufficient? Regardless he will have to be crated for 6-8 weeks. Thanks! Scooter's Mom

ASKED BY

Has anyone else tried the Rescue Remedy pet formula

I have tried it with Rusty, and it gave him terrible diarrhea. After looking at the ingredients, I'm wondering whether the problem was the flower essences themselves, or the glycerin that they are in. (That is the difference between the human and pet formulas - the human formula is in alcohol.)

I am trying to decide whether to try using the human formula, or to try rubbing it on the inside of his ear (this is a suggestion on their website) where it can be absorbed by the many blood vessels without going through the digestive tract and possibly causing an upset. Just wondering what other pups' experience has been.

Thanks!

ASKED BY

are there any home remedies you can try for a dog whose recently gotten a cloudy eye?

My Miniature Schnauzer turned 2yrs old this summer. She did have ear mites i believe in her left ear and we got her some drops and used and now her ear is fine. I was out of town all last week and went to pick her up and noticed now that she's got a cloudy left eye. I don't know if the left ear that was infected or if it was ear mites had anything to do with the left eye now being cloudy, but wondering if anyone knows a home remedy to try first before dishing out the vet bill? I had surgery 5 wks ago and still off work from it, so my husband and i are trying to go the cheapest way to fix her up. she doesn't seem to be effected by it right now, but i don't want to wait til she is to do something.

ASKED BY

Dog Bones (the ones dogs don't eat). How long does it take for bones to heal.

Thirteen weeks ago, Buster, a 110 pound Greater Swiss Mountain Dog was hit by a car and the two bones in his front leg were broken (if he were human it would be the two between the wrist and the elbow). Twelve weeks ago they put a plate with nine screws on the large one and aligned the smaller one to mend. He's been in a cage (large kennel in my living room ) and we've been putting a ramp up and down on the back stairs to get him out for a walk. I was supposed to call the vet after 6 weeks to set up for an x-ray on the eighth week to see how it was healing. After two animal hospitals and $8000, to take this x ray they will have to put him under and that hospital is in the next state . I'm figuring the cost of this x-ray to be $400 to $600. I don't want to sound cold but I can't spend anymore money on him right now, and it healed the way it healed (do an operation if it didn't heal properly?). Do you think 12 weeks was enough heal time to get rid of the cage and ramp?
Thank you.

ASKED BY
