Is Timothy hay okay for dog bedding?

I went to Walmart today to find an alternative bedding (that can't be ripped or chewed up) for Daegan's dog house to replace the cedar chips that are being used now. I wanted to try hay, so I bought this stuff called "timothy hay" that's supposed to be for feeding rabbits. I figured "hay is hay", and that it'd be okay to use. But I'm concerned that it has an expiration date and that if Daegan tried to eat the hay, it would hurt him after it expired. Research on the internet didn't help me, so I came here. Is it okay to use the hay as a dog house bedding?

ASKED BY

Safer alternative to soda bottles/plastic jars? Sure does love'm...

Long story short, I'll give her the finished peanut butter jar or she'll knaw on a soda bottle or something. It's all fine, but the tops get really pointy and sharp, so I take them away from her (and I never leave her with these items when I'm not around.) Don't want her to get cut up or anything, which it seems could happen unless I'm just being paranoid.

These items, with or without food/scent/flavor, seem to be her favorite items, she'll just go at them for hours if you'd let her. She has fun with other items, but these get priority when I'm around/she gets them.

Anyone know a more reasonable toy that would simulate the hard plastic chew but, you know, without the potential shards and all that?

ASKED BY

Recommend a pet boutique/groomers (they will order what you need if they don't have it) and treat maker?

I have examined and evaluated for nearly a year two places/groups. One, a boutique has a bountiful selection of high end foods, etc. for dogs and cats with an extremely low mark up. They are very helpful - oh, the do fantastic grooming as well. Here in west GA that is a huge boon as we have no pet shops or such available.

I also have a recommendation for a dog treat maker - her kitchen work is fantastic and my two very finicky dogs will testify.

I would like to post about them but I don't want to break any rules or annoy someone. Can I do this without doing either one?

Regards

what to get for the lab who has everything

Bam-Bam's best buddy at daycare is a 14 year old chocolate lab. This lab's birthday is on Saturday and we've been invited to a party for him. I am trying to think of what to get for him/the family as I know the family very well and adore them. I have a friend who is a photographer and I was thinking about seeing if she could come to my work some day during the afternoon and secretly take some headshots of the lab and edit them. She said it's absolutely doable by Saturday. What do ya'll think? Does anybody else have suggestions???

ASKED BY

What are the best non splintering dog bones?

My pups love to chew on these bone sticks I found at a local pet store. They are a bit pricey at 2.60 a bone and are only about 4 inches long maybe half an inch thick.

They go through a bone each about every 3 days, so I wouldn't mind buying in bulk.

I do not want them to have anything that can splinter, Any suggestions?

ASKED BY

We just installed a 6-ft stockade fence for our two dogs in our shady backyard. The ground is currently weedy, rocky, and dirt/mud. We are wondering what some good options are for planting or placing in the area that are dog-friendly and will grow in the shade, if we use groundcovers. Grass will not grow. We are considering bark mulch, recycled rubber mulch (but are worried the puppy will try to eat it) or planting English ivy. Thoughts? What have others used?

ASKED BY
