So when it comes to giving haircuts to double coated breeds...

I know you are never to shave a double coated breed to the skin unless it's for a medical reason, but exactly how short CAN you take the hair without it affecting the dog?

For example a Pomeranian. Keeping a pom in full coat can be high maintenance (depending on the dog), and is not always necessary or practical on an active pet. So if you were to take a guard comb over the dog's body to keep it lower maintenance (less dirt, etc) OR scissor it smooth but still keep a good amount of fluff on there (at least 1+ inch), is that okay for the dog? What kind of styles are available for pet poms?

Just to keep things very clear, I'm NOT talking about shaving the dog naked, nor am I talking about shaving his fur very close or very short. Still fluffy-ish, but not the long fur a pom grows untouched, more "sporty" I guess.
Sort of like this:

Are there any human leave-in conditioners that can be used on dogs?

My Japanese Spitz's fur is a little dry behind her legs. It doesn't look very nice, and makes grooming time all the more difficult. I don't want to make her bath times last any longer than they already do (as she hates them), and I cannot make her stand around for three minutes or so whilst the conditioner sets in, so I have to use a leave-in conditioner. However I could not find any actual leave-in conditioners for dogs, only 'detangling' ones, which are not a high enough strength to truely moisturise her dry fur. So, I was wondering if there are any leave-in conditioners intended for humans that can be used (and work) on dogs?

ASKED BY

I have a 2yr old Welsh Springer Spaniel and I'm unsure whether to groom/cut her coat? It is hot and humid where I live. I have tried some cooling aids for her and even bought a little pool. I love her coat and how it feathers out. Especially her tail and legs, however, I would rather her be comfortable than what I think looks pretty. I'm thinking only during the summer I will do this but
my question is does anyone know if by cutting her coat, it will grow back different or thicker. She has never been groomed before. She is booked in two days to go. Just unsure ;(??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

ASKED BY
