Why are people still "buying" dogs?

Well, I don't so much have a question as I do a comment, that I know I'll catch some heat for. I've been perusing this website now for a few weeks and find it very informative, cute and interesting. Obviously it holds my interests. But, the thing that has my blood boiling is the amount of people who still "buy" dogs. I seem to read- "I got my dog from a breeder" and then they talk about how sick their puppy is. I know the majority of the people here have adopted, but I guess I'm so shocked at the amount of people still buying dogs. A lot of people don't even know that there's a rescue group for almost every breed out there. We all have our favorite breed, but with a click of the mouse, you can find a rescue group for your specific breed. I found my boy that way and now I'm hooked on their website looking at all the new arrivals. I know some come with issues, but most can over come those issues with hard work, structure and love. People please adopt. Too many dogs get euthanized.

ASKED BY

I adopted a female ferret last night and want to make sure to introduce her to Princess Safely. Princess has been around other small pets but Buttons the Ferret came from a pet free home, so she is scarred of Princess.

Any advice would be great, as well I have other Ferret questions to ask to someone who owns one if you don't mind?

Time of adjustment for adopted dogs

I adopted a big dog from a rescue. The best guess at his age was somewhere between 1 and 1 1/2 and I don't know much about his history before me. I'm pretty sure he was well cared for, but he did get shuffled around a few times. I've had him a little over 4 months now. I've never adopted an adult dog before. All of my dogs previously started their lives with me when they were 10 weeks old. He doesn't seem to have many issues, but I'm curious about the bonding process. I know all dogs are different, but what is usually the time for a dog to relax and realize that this is his forever home? Again, I know dogs are all different, but I guess I'm hoping that he realizes that I'm his mom and can trust me. I'm working on the respect thing. I don't think he respects me yet and I'm wondering about him trusting me. I'm working hard with him to establish both, but I'm doubting his commitment. I'm not giving up, but just curious. Nothing super important. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

ASKED BY

We already have a six year old pug/pom mix, and we're planning on getting a pug puppy in a few months. We are currently trying to decide on whether we should adopt a female or male pup. We figured that our dog would accept a female better, but I recently heard that there is nothing more loving than a neutered male pug...what do you guys think?

ASKED BY

I need help.

On Friday my Mom brought home a dog. She is a minature schnauzer and is a little bigger than I am and she a year old are close to being a year. She was living with this couple that could not afford to keep her and she wasn't getting the attention that she needed. The problem is I've been by myself with my Mom for almost 3 years and I'm not use to having another dog around. She is a very good dog. I'm just not sure about this situation. I've been crying and trying to tell my Mom something but she doesn't understand me. Mom really wants us to be friends but she doesn't know what to do. It's hard getting adjusted to her being here and its hard for her to adjust to the way that we do things around here. Now Mom is feeling sorry for me. Mom just doesn't know what to do. Please help. If anyone has any advice for us please let us know. Thanks.

ASKED BY
