First off i am going to start by saying this isn't going to keep from neutering my boy or anything like that, i just have never owned males before.
I have a mixed breed male and he is very protective of me. I like that in him because i don't live in the best of areas and i feel really safe with him. My question is when he is neutered will he lose that protective drive in him because of less testosterone?
I have some nuetered males and some still intact. The ones who I've had nuetered are still the same dogs, just as protective. The nuetering takes away the unreasonabloe agression in my experience.
You have no need to say please be gentle on me. The members of this site may know things through experience and educating themselves, some don't know anything. But not one of them is the messiah of dog knowledge. Take the answers that sound good to you and leave the rest. Some people have nothing better to do than to come online and belittle people who are just seeking answers, and trying to improve their knowledge. To some, it is the only way to let out thier anger.
Male dogs who are nuetered are easier to handle deal with etc. but it is entirely up to you. Just research how to care for and keep an intact dog if you deciede against the surgery.
Good luck
Cheers.

Hmmm...well it really all depends. I don't think that he will lose his protectiveness if you neuter him. I don't care what any other dogs say...if you feel that getting him neutered WILL make him less protective than don't get him neutered. Just make sure that he is well under controll at all times. Do what you think is best and don't feel under pressure if other dogsters have some "not-so-nice-answers." Hope I helped!!! Paw-mail me please if you have any questions!

no.
That is something along the lines of his instinct. If he is proven to be protective over you then that will not change.
He will perhaps not want to run off to be with females.
He will not hump people ect.
He will remain the same in his character:)

Hey, Rambo!
I have a 9 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who has been neutered since he was 6 mos old. He is friendly, but he is also protective of me and responds well to me if I am nervous. I grew up in a neighborhood that was very sketchy, and I can tell you that I never once had a problem with other people when he was with me because he'd put himself between me and any threat. So, from personal experience, I do not think altering your dog will cause him to lose his protective instincts. Protection is a natural instinct in many breeds and is displayed by males and females alike, with or without testosterone.
