Please Help.... 9 month old Cavalier King Charles with Aggressive Lymphoma

The absolute love of my life, Ollie is my 9 month old cavalier king charles spaniel. I would literally do anything for him. anything. last week on monday night I noticed he was, what I thought, " congested". I took him to the vet on tuesday, apparently he had fluid build up in his plural region of his chest. the vet made some suggestions (collapsed diaphragm, or fungi) we were referred to a specialist facility (Ventura Medical and Surgical Center) and they did a fine needle aspiration and found it was lymphoma, aggressive and causing him immense trouble breathing. we have had to have him "tapped" every day (sometimes twice a day) since he has been admitted. he had chemo (two different cocktails on saturday and one more aggressive one on sunday) and is still having trouble breathing and the mass according to the Dr. has not reduced in size. my family and I feel at a loss for what to do. we don't want him in pain, but is there any hope? any alternatives? are we doing the right thing?

i'm sorry to hear about Ollie. I can see you love him enough to do anything for him. I wish I had a better answer for you, but the best thing for you to do is to talk to the specialist. If the specialist thinks there is hope then there still may be hope. I had a cat with lymphoma and he didn't last long enough to get him into a facility where they could take care of him. So there could still be hope. Ollie sounds like a fighter. Once again talk to the vet... I would think the hospital would keep him out of pain while they are trying to make him better. As long as the specialist sees hope for Ollie then you ARE doing the right thing. He deserves a fighting chance!!! I hope that he gets better, but I am sorry if he doesn't. We will keep him in our prayers!!!!!

HI, I am sorry Ollie is sick. I have to agree, talk to your vet, if he feels Ollie can get well or has a chance to get well, do everything you can. Even if he is uncomfortable for now, if he can get well help him do so.

If the doctor doesn't feel that he can get well, then the best thing is to let him go when he doesn't seem to enjoy life anymore.

I had to do this for Specks, my Dalmatian. When he would no longer eat even tasty favorites and no longer even waged his tail when we got home, I had him PTS. The vet said he was dying and wouldn't have lived much longer, but I didn't want him to suffer.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Talk to your vet, do everything you can, and listen to your heart.
