Sonny

People in my condo are snapping because they think my dog is too big.

I have a beagle about 17" tall. The limit is 12" but there are taller dogs that Sonny that are like 20" or 25". An old hag rudely told me that Sonny was over the limit. I told her to buzz off while I walk down the stairs but she kept on talking even when I reached the bottom floor. She must of thought I actually gave crap to what she was saying.

How can I get people to SHUT UP?!

I dont want to have to lose my dog.

Please be careful in how your respond to your neighbors. Calling someone an "old hag" and telling them to "buzz off" is also rude. If you are rude to your neighbors they will be much more likely to report you and demand your dog be removed. In situations like this, you should be as nice and polite as possible to your neighbors and the HOA. They are much more likely to let you keep your dog if you are polite and reasonable about it. Next time, try "Thanks, I'll look into that," and calmly just walk away.

Also, people are far less likely to remove a well-behaved dog than a poorly-behaved one. Take Sonny to basic obedience classes, teach him to greet people and other animals appropriately, try to make sure he doesn't bark excessively, etc. You might also look into the Canine Good Citizen Test.

Re-read your rules - maybe there is a way to get around the height restriction - for example, if you got the dog as a puppy and it grew taller than expected.

Respect goes both ways ... if you want it, you must also give it. The Quickest way to loose your dog is to get someome pissed at you!

The best way to "Shut them Up" (as you put it) is to not give them anything to complain about in the first place.

Make sure that you and your dog are always well manored, kind and you go out of your way to be friendly to everyone. That will put you in good status with everyone and they will be more apt to back you up.

Wow!..What a rude & abrasive person you seem to be!
Rules are rules & you catch more flies with honey than vinegar!!!!
Could it be that the people who keep larger dog than you do get along with the neighbors?

Looking at your profile, sonny is still a pup and could grow even larger. It also says you have had him for 3 months, how long have you lived at these apts, if it was before you got sonny, then you knew the rules before you adopted him.
I'd suggest being nicer to your neighbors, if not they are more likely to complain, and if they complain then the apts can force you to get rid of him because the neighbors abiding by the rules pay rent just like you do and they have thier right to be treated with respect and to be treated fairly.
I hope you can get this under control, sonny seems like a good dog and it would be a shame that he lose another family in his short little life.

It might be a good idea to start looking at where you can move if the neighbors complain.

Personally if someone was as rude as you, I would consider complaining in the hopes a nicer person would move in.

You might try apologizing to your neighbor and telling them something like you are so scared you will lose your dog that your tongue ran away with you. If you can get your neighbors on your side, it might be okay.

I'd lose my condo before I'd lose my dog.

Dunkin

The height limit is only important if you are showing a dog. There they have to be a certain height or be excused. Are you sure he is not a Harrier. They look alot like beagles only a bit bigger
