Help!
We have a dog door.
We have had him for over a year with no issues such as this until about a month ago. Tried crating him when not home, but he just did it today with me home and him out and about...
When you are around you need to keep a close eye on the dog. Use closed doors or gates to keep it in the same room as you are, and perhaps as I do, a short chain fastened to the computer desk. If you catch it in the act, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and take it out. When you can't watch it, crate it.
Watch very carefully if you see it sniffing around the area. Be ready to interrupt it and take it out.

Since he was fine up until a month ago, I worry a bit that he might have something wrong with him and maybe you should consider asking your vet about it.
As for him picking the same spot, make sure you clean it really well after he goes or he might still be able to smell it there, making him want to do it again on the same spot.
Has there been any changes recently that could be making him be going to complain or get attention? Something like a new pet or human, change in work schedules could have set him off.
If it persists or gets worse I would just take him to the vet to be sure, he could have an infection or something.
Hope this helps! :)

Check your dog door to make sure he hasn't outgrown it, and for sharp corners or screws that my have come loose. He may have had been poked or scraped while going out, making him reluctant to use it.
