our 2year old pitty is wippering, panting & pacing in the middle of the night. Needing to be outside is not the issue.

What is different at night? If you have ruled out a medical problems and needing to pee figure out what is different about his environment when he does this behavior. Maybe feral cats or wild animals prowling outside. Is he locked up somewhere for the night…..Once you figure out why he is doing it, you can decide how to address the behavior.
