stuff a kong with peanut butter and have someone hold that to his nose while you start in and clip his toe nails.
I would do that as that is giving the dog something positive to do while he is getting his nails cut. Maybe that should be done a few times to train him that nail trimming and food go hand in hand and is rewarding:)

Bandit had the same problem. Dieta gave some good advice. I would also recommend talking very soothingly to him while cutting, doing only one foot or even just a couple of nails and then taking a break, and reinforce with small treat after each foot. Another thing that may help is even when you are not trimming his nails, for example he is just laying down, go pet him and pick up his feet. Play with his nails so he get used to people touching his feet and his nails. Gradually, he should improve. Good luck!!

Get plenty of tasty treats or put a slab of peanut butter on the fridge so he's distracted while you go in to clip his nails. Often, groomers or vets will do a quick nail trim for free, or for a very small fee. Hope this helps!
