Sonny

My stubborn dad thinks my dog is part basset hound, I dont think so. What is he mixed with?

My dad thinks he's a dog expert. He thinks Sonny is part basset hound because of his colors. I disagree but like I said my dad is so subborn he wont take no for an answer.

He thinks that the word beagle means shiffer. I told him the word beagle meant gape throught or open throught. But of course he didnt listen.

Please tell me what is Sonny mixed with? I need an educated guess.

OMD! He looks just like the dog we had today at the adoption events!!! I'm sorry, but that dog was a Beagle/ Basset hound mix. That's what I think he is. And I think that is the most "educated" guess I can give :-)
unless you can get him a DNA test which only cost $100 at a company I can't remember which one.

BOL, a mixed breed dog can be whatever you want him to be. (Unless you know for sure who his parents are. Auda is ¼ Italian Greyhound and ¾ Jack Russell terrier. We know this because his dad is a pure bred and his mom is a cross bred from purebred parents)
If it makes your dad happy to think he is part Basset Hound, let him. What difference does it make? (Try to value time with your dad, he won’t always be here and you will be sorry when he is gone)
I understand that some breeds do have certain characteristics but there will always be the exception and with a mix you never know whose’ quirks you have gotten. Love your “God only knows” dog for who he is and don’t worry what his breed may be.

Sasha --- > ADOPTABLE

Rescues sometimes make a guess about a dog that isn't its true breed.

Basset hounds do not come in the shepherd color that Sonny is. They come in black and tan, lemon and white, red and white, and tri color.

Beagles also dont come in the shepherd color, they have the same colors as bassets.

You are still most likely to be a German Shepherd Beagle mix.

If you still aren't sure, you can buy a simple DNA testing from Jeffers Pet. You can find it here at

Breed identification without DNA analysis is nearly impossible in mixed breeds. Most mixes are comprised of at least three identifiable breeds, usually with traces of several more. Even vets are not trained or required to be experts in breed identification, so your best bet is DNA testing.
