My rescue cocker is scared of a kennel. when you put her in one at the groomers she smacks herself against the metal
We got our rescue cocker from a family that kept him locked in a kennel in a dark room and was attacked by children for fun. He is 4 and was not potty trained , is now.. he is scared of kennels so to hve him groomed is a problem. He bangs himself against the sides and injures his back and legs. I am so worried about him. We do not keep any of our 3 (another cocker and a jack russel, all rescues) in kennels. My husband does not believe in them and neither do I. What do I do.

It sounds like this is only a problem for grooming, since you do not normally keep your dogs in a kennel. Depending on where you live, you should be able to find a mobile groomer who comes to your home with a van all set up for grooming inside. Probably more expensive (I haven't priced these services), but definitely less traumatic!
Thank you for rescuing these dogs; it's always good to hear about homeless animals finding a furever home! :-)

By all means never put this poor dog in a kennel again! As for the family who had this dog previously, don't worry. They've got a fire burning down below, and it's waiting for them. If your groomer requires that your dog be placed in a kennel, FIND ANOTHER groomer! This poor dog does not need the fear, scare, and bad memories coming back every time he is put in a kennel. Throw the kennel away or give the kennel away if you still own one.
