My puppy cries at night and I think I'm too much of a sucker to train her not to
I just got a puppy, she's 9 weeks old. She cries all night, and I was just wondering how long I should expect her to do this? We gave her a nice bed, with a clock in it, the radio on softly, and I spend ages beforehand trying to wear her out.
Also...as I'm typing this I can hear her crying. I left her to cry for about an hour and a half and then I couldn't take it anymore and I went in and comforted her and put her back to sleep. Was this the wrong thing to do? I feel like it must be bad for her to get so upset.

In my opinion, it's not wrong to comfort her once in a while. All dogs are different and some just need some reassurance. Now, if you're letting her out of her crate and letting her play, that's a different thing.
Sometimes, you don't have to say anything, just being in the same room with the puppy is going to calm them.
I would always have a puppy sleep in the same room with me since they are pack animals, they are going through a very recent and stressful HUGE change being away from mom and siblings and their old owners. It's a lot to take in for a pup and reassurance is good.
If you keep her crate or kennel in an area where she can SEE you, she might end up being a lot happier and less vocal.
I'd try that....and keep in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day. She's still young and she has a long way to go before she's comfortable and confident.

As long as you cater to her whining she will continue to do it & it will increase in frequency & tone...Your puppy will do what pays off & if this works she will continue to do it.

try placing her near a night light area. Plug one in high up or near her crate.
Also place a fluffy blanket inside and a toy to snuggle up to. Placing the crate by the bed also lets her know you are there and she is not so alone.
It will be hard the first few weeks she misses her mom and family.

I have never had much luck with the old clock or radio tricks. What I do is lay down by the crate like I was going to sleep there. Usually a puppy may fuss a little, but then settle down and go to sleep. Once it is asleep, you can get up and go to bed.

both of my puppies when we got them cried but what I found that helped was to not put the puppy in her crate until she was already asleep. of course they still cried but they were also too tired to let it carry on for very long. perhaps you can try this.
best not to rescue her. just let her cry it out. after a bit she'll get used to the schedule. you many have many sleepless nights.
