My pup got bite in the tail 2 days ago by my dog-sitters lab, and is now showing signs of aggression to other dogs, help

My 8-month old american bulldog mix is a very friendly and kind dog. She enjoys going to the dog park, and gets along with most dogs (she has only had one aggressive scare with the neighbors small dog, but nothing serious) This past weekend we left her at my dog-sitters home, and she came back with a bite on her tail. I took her to the vet today to get it checked out, and he gave us some antibiotics to give her. However, she was extreamly aggressive to 2 other dogs in the waiting room, which is very rare of her. She was growling like crazy and trying to bite them, very scary! I didnt know what to do. We just ended our training classes and she did great. I think this bite-experience has put her back. How should I get her to not be aggressive towards dogs again? I'm even scared that she may be aggressive when not on a leash now! I am so sad...please give me some advice

Don't panic. Your dog is going to be nervous after her bad experience, but her response in the vet's office is not necessarily an indication of a permanent problem. The vet's office has strange smells and ill and nervous animals around. Being on a leash is also stressful, because the dog knows she can't get away if attacked. She may have been showing fear aggression, trying to scare away the other dogs.

Try taking her to the dog park or dog beach early in the morning, when there are not a lot of dogs there, and play fetch or chase with her. She might be a bit clingy, but just stay calm and relaxed and she will pick up on that energy from you. If everything is normal to her, she will behave normally.

If you find she's being aggressive toward other dogs off-leash, it's time to call in an expert. See www.k9techsupport.com for an article on finding a reputable trainer. Good luck - and don't go back to that dog-sitter!
