Dog is an 9yr old minature short-haired dashund. My daughter sprayed WD-40 on the outside of his ears, on his face & neck. I washed him with dog shampoo & then poured baking soda on him (twice). He still spells of WD-40 & while washing him, he lost alot more hair than he normally loses when he's washed. I don't know what to do. Thank you for any help you can give me.

ok i know its been like a month, but if the smell is still there try this. Firstly all sprays and oils ( like gasoline-motor oil-and wd-40) can be taken out of clothes with half a cup of amonia in the washing machine - but when it comes to pets it obviously more difficult.
Heres a list of what to do...

- The first thing to do is give you're pup a nice long bath with DAWN Dish soap- it'll help the smell, and as an added bonus it knocks out fleas.

-The Second thing to do is run luke warm water in the kitchen sink- make sure you plug the drain. When you sink is full just add 1 once of home amonia (not clothes detergents with added amonia)

-Thirdly make sure you got a good grip on the pup and that the water doesnt get in his eyes-it wont do any damage, it just hurts. Give him a good long soak in there making sure to get the spots where the oil hit.

-Lastly RINSE HIM GOOD... and DRY HIM WELL...

Well thats it, I hope this helps.

wd40 displaces water, so its difficult to remove.
dawn dishwashing soap should work very well, make sure to do a thorough rinsing and avoid getting it in his eyes, its not tearproof.

Just wash it off, it wont hurt your dog unless he got a bunch in his mouth. WD-40 is safer than you think.. I am a day late on this, so how is he doing today?

785-532-5679 is the number for the Kansas State University Poison Control Hotline. Unlike the National Animal Poison Control Hotline, there is no charge. A vet is on duty to answer questions. I have no idea what their hours are, but it's worth a try.
