My husky is in coma. Help!

My 10 year old Siberian Husky suddenly started to wobble yesterday. We were less than a block from the animal hospital so I brought him right in. Within minutes of arriving he collapsed. Heart and lungs look good on xray, nothing unusual is showing on blood tests. His gums are pink. He has been in coma now since about 4 pm yesterday. Vet says the longer he is in coma the more chance of permanent brain damage and he could technically stay in this condition for years.
I can't afford to keep him in hospital for years as much as I want to do everything to save him. She is suggesting if he doesnt improve by tonight to consider euthenasia. This breaks my heart. Any suggestions? SHe said she thinks its a blood clot that caused an aneurism, and it is definetely neurological. She thinks it is from his stem cell because his pupils are real tiny. He is NEVER Off leash so didnt get into anything as far as I can tell. My other dog is fine.
He is such a good sweet boy this breaks my hea

I'm so very sorry this is happening to your beloved baby! Things like this happen without warning and are never easy. It doesn't make it any easier that we can't talk to you and tell our mommies and daddies what's wrong with us. Please just give Jack a few more days, he looks like a really strong guy. I will say some puppy paw prayers for him tonight before I go to sleep. I prowmise. Just don't give up on him!! He's counting on you to stand by him and have faith in him. Remember we thrive off of our mommies and daddies energy so if we feel your losing hope in us we will feel that. So just send him lots of pawsitive energy and tons of paw love and surround him with all of his favorite toys and talk to him and tell him he needs to wake up and he will. k? I KNOW HE WILL!!

Give him lots of pawws and sniffies from CoCo!!!
God Bless You Jack & Jacks Mommy & Family

This is such a painful, awful decision to make. I've been there and done that and I'm sending lots of prayers that you will be able to make whatever the right decision is for your sweet boy.

This IS heartbreaking, and I'm so sorry this has happened to him and that you are going through this.

What I'd urge you consider is what his quality of life might be like if he comes out of this coma and has brain damage or neurological problems. As much as you love him and want him to have the best chance possible of recovery, there is the unfortunate fact that he probably has a poor prognosis despite his heart and lung functioning.

I'm not saying to give up on him completely right this minute, but I would have an honest talk with your vet about what his chances really are for making a recovery which allows him to lead a happy life. If the odds are slim, it might be time to let him go. You should be able to be with him and hold him when that happens, so talk to your vet about making those arrangements, if necessary.

I know this is hard....the hardest thing a pet parent can face. Email me if you need any support. My heart is with you.

I'm so sorry, my heart goes out to you. I didn't know dogs could go into comas like people. Did you consider seeing another vet? Be strong for your boy so you can make the right decision for him.

Honestly if it were me I'd give him a few days to see if he improves, he has only been in the coma since last night right? Like with people a coma can last a few days or even years. I personally wouldn't jump straight into putting the dog down just yet, I would give him atleast a few days. Since nothing else seems unusual. I just know that sometimes people can come out of a coma just fine, he might be able to. I don't want to give you false hope though because more times than not that doesn't happen. But if it were me, I'd give him a couple of days. But ultimately it's what you think is best. Our prayers are with you and your dog.

Sir Winston

I would wait a few days, just to see if he gets better. But if nothing gets any better then I would consider it. =[ I wish you the very best!

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it is to make a decision like this. Listen to your vet. I don't believe she would ever recommend euthanasia if there was any real chance your dog could live a quality life after the coma. My prayers are with you.
