My dog won't stop crying !!!!

I've had my chihuahua for 3 yrs now and about I week ago me and my husband returned from a 5 day vacation. We left my dog with a friend who also has a dog. This was the first time my dog had ever stayed with anyone other than us. It's been 7 days now and since day 1 all he does is cry. He sits by the front door or the front window and cries until one of us comforts him and even though will keep crying. He mainly sits & cries by my husband and I figured maybe because he's the one that took him. He will sit on his lap and it almost sounds like he's howling or trying to tell us something. Since the 1st day I figured it was b/c he misses the other dog but it's been 7 days now and I don't know what to do. It's non stop crying and some nights he gets up it seems like every 15 minutes. He peed on my daughters toy which he had never done before. How can I help him ? It breaks my heart to see him so sad.

what i think is either take him to see the other dog as much as possible, or buy another dog to keep him company he might be lonly and needs a buddy.

Your first stop should be your vet, to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with your Chihuahua. This could be a behavioral issue, but you won't know for sure until he gets a clean bill of health from the vet.

Once you're sure he's not in pain, it's time to work on the behavior. This could be loneliness, but it sounds like your comforting him isn't helping. It could be separation anxiety or fear that he's going to be left again. There could be a lot of different sources for this crying, but the bottom line is that he needs to calm down and stop.

My best advice is to find a trainer or behaviorist who uses humane methods and has experience dealing with anxiety issues. Go to www.k9techsupport.com for an article on how to find a reputable trainer.

If you can't afford to work with a professional on this issue, work on training and distracting your Chi. Read the articles on keeping him busy, teach him new things, and walk him more. Good luck!

Does your dog get out often? It might be because he misses the other dog, but I wouldn't think he'd be so insistant if he sees other dogs regularly. If he doesn't, you may want to consider bringing him someplace for doggy playdates and such.

If it's not the other dog, I'd suggest you bring him to the vet... it may be an underlying problem he has. If he peed on your daughter's toy, he might be having a urinary issue. That would explain him sitting by the door all the time as well. Take him to the vet.

Your dog could have emotional issues, but it also could be physical. It could be coincidental that this started after your trip, or perhaps the dog ate something he shouldn't have while you were away....

My Grandma's dog started crying and having some peeing in the house problems. She took her to the vet and they discovered she had kidney stones. It was only a small operation needed to fixed the problem.

I think you should take him to the vet to rule out physical problems....
