my cat older cat dos that its ok it most the time wont hurt her but if it makes you crazy you should take her to see vet . are cat gust has a problem cleaning her self but she did gust for a little time when she got used to are new cat she stoped

Bugsy is right, you need to take her to a vet to get checked out. Its probably fleas and she may be allergic to them and have more of a recation than normal. If its fleas the vet will be able to give you Frontline, Advantage or Revolution that should kill the fleas on your cat. They may also give her some antibiotics to make sure the sores don't get infected. You should also get something like De Flea by Natural Chemistry to get rid of any fleas/eggs in the house. Spray it around the edge of the carpets and on any furniture that she sits on or sleeps on. By treating her and the house you'll get rid of all the fleas. If its not fleas and the vet can't find any other cause it could be stress from when you were away. A Feliway diffuser can help reduce anxiety and stress for cats so that is worth a try. If the vet thinks its stress they can also give you stronger anti anxiety meds, like kitty prozac, if they think she needs it.

Obsessive licking by itself could be a sign of stress. If she is scratching herself this bad she could have some kind of skin problems or maybe fleas. If this has been going on for a few weeks then you should take her to the vet for an exam. With open sores, she could get an infection. Please take kitty to the vet.
