so much to do, so much to see outside...how can one be bothered with toileting?
Yes, Millie was the same way, I solved this by bringing her outside and then bringing her in for a few minutes, then out again. Second trip out she always did her business.
Now we're down to the one trip, but, I always bring her to her preferred spot just before we come in, that way she knows what's up.
Mille is my second B&T, the first one was a "rescue" (I found him in the goat barn, was a walking skeleton), had to rehome him when he was well and strong he decided to turn on my Flashboy..
Anyway, B&T are great dogs, so keep up the training, Millie is doing just fine now. Your guy is probably too busy with all the sights and sounds to get right down to "business" the double trip worked for Millie, give it a try. Just make sure you go out again after 3-4 minutes.

Hi Cookie!
I like Millie's advice - it addresses the possibility that you have learned to associate elimination with coming inside.
Here is similar advice given by my trainer:
Feed your dog in the morning and evening. Take him out right after he eats; most dogs need to eliminate within half an hour of eating. Do not play with your dog until after he "goes potty". Then praise him and play with him for a little while after he has taken care of business. Dogs catch on very quickly that they will have to go inside after they void and may hold it just so they can play with you. Give water every 2-3 hours, let him drink his fill, then take him out.
See www.k9techsupport.com for good articles on potty-training and other types of training. Good luck with your pup!

coonhound with possible urinary infection?
I would make sure there is not medical reason for the quick pee right after being outside. Yes, the other advice was very good, too....
SEE the vet just to rule out infection. VERY common problem for all ages:

If he pees in cage see if your vet can test that to see about uti infection.
But, yes, he may also be outside not long enough, or he is still not potty trained. He is still a puppy. I noticed my male took longer to housetrain.
Maybe also place a log , cone or another pee station object outside to urinate on. He is probably still squatting, but a marker is fun for them to learn outside on.
