Rasta - In loving memory

My 13 yr old Chow retriever mix has been diagnosed with Cushings syndrome (adrenal tumor).

The vet is concerned about performing surgery because of the location of the tumor on his adrenal gland. Apparently it is very close to a major artery that runs through his stomach & adrenal glands. I am mostly concerned about his quality of life if I don't do the surgery. The vet has only given 50/50 odds of him being able to recover from surgery & she has not given very good odds for him to make it through the procedure. Is there another option besides surgery? What types of signs would I look for if he is starting to become diabetic, or getting high blood pressure... In other words how do I know that his quality of life is bottoming out?

What a charmer! I have no answers for you. Excessive urination is a sign of diabetes. You will become very good friends with you vet though this, but, ultimately, Rasta will tell you when it is time to go. Enjoy the time you two have left together and try not to over analyze his every mood or whim. You'll know.
I'm sorry that you have to go through this. Hang in there, Rasta!
