Is it safe to leave 2 dogs alone together. I have a 17 month old Parson russell terrier and a 12 month old staffordshire bull terrier. I have had jasper (PRT) for 5 months and have just got Milo (Staffie) 2 weeks ago. They generally get along fine just a bit of play fighting although milo weighs quite a bit more and so sometimes hurts jasper which makes him snap which makes me worry about them fighting. They are both male and both rescue dogs. Any help and info would be appreciated.
Thanks

It would probably be okay to leave them alone together-my dogs snip at each other too sometimes, but they have never fought, although mine have practically been raised together. If you have any reservations about leaving them together maybe you should crate them or put them in separate rooms. Maybe you should start slow and leave them alone for maybe 5 or 10 minutes and then work up to leaving them longer. With them being rescue dogs you really don't know if they've had bad experiences with other dogs in the past. It's better to be safe than sorry.

While it may be safe at some point in the future, for the moment the two shouldn't be left unsupervised. The situation is still too new for the two of them to be alone together. I would give it a minimum of 6 months of them being okay together when supervised before I would consider leaving them alone. Even then, I would only do it for short periods at first and then lengthen the time as they proved their reliability.

I'd say no it's not safe to leave them alone--at least not yet. You've had Milo for only 2 weeks and in those two weeks you really don't know what his personality and temper is like. Yeah they may play nice while you're around, but it doesn't mean they'll play nice when you're not.
You should monitor they behavior when they're together and wait a while until you leave them together. Better safe than sorry.

I agree, it is a bit to soon to leave them alone. i would maybe start by leaving them alone for a half hour, maybe as you go to the store fast , and just keep building from there. But to leave them alone now i dont believe is a good idea. They are both young dogs and really have not been together very long yet. Best of luck to you.

When we were looking for another dog to rescue the Pit Bull rescue group I spoke with said no matter what never leave a pit loose with another dog even if they are best buddies. Play just gets out of hand and they can't stop. We did not wind up going with the little Pit puppy in the end, but I was prepared to follow the advise - they should know better than I.

I don't think I would leave them alone yet.
