While many strongly believe the premium foods are better, there is no real proof of it. All the talk about good and bad ingredients is guess work. Much of it is based on how appetizing the ingredients are to people.

If you are feeding it and your dog is doing well, I would continue. If it is doing well on something else, I would stick to it.

Most of what i see posted here about food is contrary to fact.

While sites such as dog food analysis have lists of ingredients, there is no studies backing up the ratings of them.

There are plenty of studies that show a diet with quality meat ingredients and quality ingredients over all do have an effect on the health of our pets. Just as diet influences our health it does our pets as well. Grocery store brands are full of cheap ingredients, and have had numerous quality control problems including recalls. Plus corn has no place in a dog's diet. Iams, Purina, Eukanuba, Pedigree have had recalls, contain poor ingredients, lacking in meat, full of articial colors and lots of fillers. All one needs is a simple understanding of the dogs digestive system to know why these cheap fillers aren't needed. Dogs don't need grains or carbs. There are several places one can find this simple information NRC, Whole dog journal, and many of the big box companies have put out information showing that dogs do best with lots of quality meat. Sadly they don't take their own advice and still produce crappy food.www.dogster.com

Hi - I understand how picky some little dogs can be. The Ceaser is an ok food - it won't harm your little shih tzu but it won't help too much. My maltese was giving me a bunch of trouble with foods...! *So we did do the Ceaser for a little bit of time. Until I found the SoJO home cooking. SHE loves mom making the SoJo for her.. we add our own cooked meat to the SoJo mix.

Sojos Original Dog Food Mix
Our original mix, time-tested since 1985. A blend of grains, herbs, nuts and sea veggies that you mix with your own source of fresh meat and veggies. *** Like Hamburger Helper for your dog!
Need more help - feeding / oils and supplements see here-Shih Tzus!!!
Just love them. What a FUN BREED... We get many here at our Doggie Hotel called The Doggie Chalet. Special needs? Just ask - I would be glad to answer basic to complex questions about your pup or adult shih tzu doggies...
