I have a Pet Passport and have contacted the right people. They advise is that each state in the US has a different rule and to contact a vet In San Francisco. I'd hate to loose her for 6 month quarantine due to red tape.
Any ideas?
HI Akasha,
I am the founder of the Dogtravel Company. Acually each local jurisdiction has different laws regarding pets. Your best bet to find out what those laws are (leash laws, vaccination laws, bark laws, etc) is to contact animal control services for that jurisdicion. I'm not sure where in SF you are moving but this link shoud be a goo start www.sfgov.org
If you are inquiring about the regulatons to enter the United States with your pet, I will refer you to the United States Center for Disease Control which mandates regulations for entrance of animals. Please view this linke www.cdc.gov
If you have additinal questions I'm more than happy to help.

I work for a large practice in Chicago where we have a lot of international travelers. Your Pet Passport issued by the EU is more than adequate for entering the USA but your airline may have more time-related requests, like an exam within a week of travel to make sure your pet is healthy enough to travel. As far as living in the USA with a pet, there are different rules depending on what city, state, county that you live in but some general things are standard: your pet must be kept current on rabies vaccination or risk impounding / observation if your pet bites anyone. Also, most cities have "leash laws" meaning your pet must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 foot when in public with you. There are certain parks that are designated "dog friendly" but if it doesn't specifically state that a dog can be off leash, then it is probably best to keep your pet on leash or risk a ticket with a hefty price tag from police. Hope this helps.
