If you cut Goldendoodles too short will their hair grow back really curly?

If you cut Goldendoodles too short will their hair grow back really curly? We want to shave him during the summer but we don't want it to get too curly, of course we will no matter what because we don't want him to get to hot during the summer.

At doggie daycare I have a goldendoodle friend and he had to get his fur shaved off because his mom tried to cut it herself BOL... we teased him for a few days. Any way... his fur is coming back now and to me and my mom, it seems softer than before, not curly at all, but that's my only experience with it.

If you don't want your dog to get "too hot" during summer, LEAVE THE FUR ALONE.

Unlike humans, dogs do not sweat through their skin. They sweat through their ears and paw pads, and use evaporative cooling through their tongues.

Their FUR is designed to keep them comfortable in temperatures. Fur does this by trapping air between its layers, regulating the temperature at the dog's skin.

When you shave the fur, you leave your dog susceptible to sunburns and heat stroke.

If you need something 'extra' to cool a dog in hot weather, make sure they drink plenty of water (cool water), give ice cubes for them to chew on, and consider using a cooling vest for those really hot days. They make vests that use cooling inserts, like the RCMP Chilly Dog vest, which work even in high-humidity environments.

Consider this: working dogs deployed to Iraq are NOT shaved. Because they acclimatize. Because their fur does a good job keeping them comfortable.

I agree with Abby, however if you do wish to shave him, its not detrimental as long as you leave at least an inch of fur all over to protect from heat and sunburn.

If you want to cut him, leave about two inches or so on him (an inch at the very least). Sometimes hair grows back a different texture and either curly/straight, it varies. The poodle mix next door gets shaved down past the inch line all the time and it always comes back curly.

You're a Cali person, so the AC should keep him cool enough! (bol)
