Self-grooming areas allow people to groom their own dog for a smaller fees than a groomer doing it for you and you are not breaking your back grooming the dog in the bathtub. These places have grown very popular in western United states. If there was a self-grooming facility would you us it?
If we had one in Maryland, we would definetly use it. Then it also gives you the oppurtunity to groom your baby to your liking and not having to leave it up to a complete stranger!

We recently got one in our city and I was interested so I went and checked it out. It seemed great for a lot of people but it just wasn't suited for myself or Deogie.
The stainless steel tub with a thick rubber mat had stairs going up into it which is great, no lifting but, the tub is fairly high and by the time I got my dog in his stomach would be at my head. (I am 5'2) The only way I could get at Deogie is if I got into the tub with him. The idea is great but we will have to stick with our groomer.

Absolutely - why wouldn't you take advantage of having this available to you?
When I lived in northern Virginia, we had a self-grooming place in Alexandria. It was $8 to wash your dog, using shampoos and tubs they provided, blow-dry, and comb out the fur. They had everything available, from brushes to shampoo to professional blow-dryers and spacious grooming stations for you to use. It was very convenient after trips to the dog park when it was muddy or raining out.
Down here we have one as well, called the Dog Laundry, but their hours aren't the greatest.

I would not use one in Lowell, MA (because we live in IL), but if we had one here I would use it during the winter months. I think using a place specifically designed for dogs would be easier to use (and easier to clean up!) than my bathroom at home.
In the summer we bathe the dogs outside, so I probably wouldn't use it then. We have dogs with wash-and-wear coats, so we wouldn't really need other tools. Plus, their favorite way to dry off is to take a golf cart ride!

We have 1 here that also includes a dog park. The prices are too high. $250 a year for each pup. Its an abandoned putting green! Not nice and no water sports in summer when its very hot. It costs $10 to bath your own pup with there shampoo. More for special needs like conditioner! They even do dog shuttles now to pick up pup when your at work. Not sure of the details cause its new. We were very excited about it and went for an open house. Way too expencive. The small dog section sucked. If you want the name to see info PMail me.
