I have a 3 year old male toy poodle and two females. We put them all out regularly but the male lifts his leg all over Answers at Dogster Answers.

Nothing at all is wrong with a male marking *outside*. It is a normal, and territorial, behavior and should not be discouraged. The one exception is if he is marking *indoors*. It takes quite a while to train this out, but in the mean time you can put a "belly band" on him. A strip of cloth that goes around his middle. It needs to be changed often.

This is what dogs do. They mark their territory, even when it's in their own backyard. There are 3 dogs in that pack. He's just trying to show everyone where he's been.

Hi there! It looks like your question got cut off, but I'm guessing that your male poodle is lifting his leg all over the place - especially on vertical surfaces, like trees, benches, or (I hope not!) chairs and sofas? This behavior is called marking, and it has nothing to do with potty-training. It's driven by hormones, and is especially pronounced in unaltered males (although neutered males and females, spayed or not, can also engage in this behavior). If you have not yet had your male poodle neutered, please take care of that right away. Not only will it reduce his drive to mark everywhere, but it will also protect him from testicular cancer later in life. And I'm not even going to mention the millions of dogs who end up in shelters every year because of pet owners who failed to stop their dogs from breeding! If he is neutered, great!
