I have a 1 yr. old Yorkie. When can I start breeding her? And how many times does she go into menopause each year?

Why do you want to breed her?...Do you know how hard that is especially on such a small dog?
She shouldn't be bred before the age of 2 & only after all important health certifications are done on your dog & the stud...You'll need to find out what they are on your breed.

No offense, but I think you should leave the breeding to the responsible, experienced breeders. Please have your Yorkie spayed.

why would you want to breed her? there are too many dog breeders on the earth and way too many unwanted dogs ending up in a shelter every day!!!!! please don't breed her, get her spayed! it would be better for her in the long run. If you do insist on being, yet another breeder, check out this site i just found on google. www.yorkie.org i would agree on the other site, but it seems to be geared for labs only, where this is a site dedicated to yorkies.

If you do not know the difference between menopause and heat, and need to ask these most basic questions why do you think you need to breed your pet???? Are you aware that she may completely change in temperament, becoming overly protective and biting, not only strangers but family members. If you want her to remain a loving family pet get her spayed RIGHT NOW, otherwise, get her to a responsible breeder of Yorkies and have her evaluated as to her breeding quality, get her eyes certified, her knees and hips, (for LCP disease), certified, get her liver tested, and start reading and studying how to do it correctly, assuming she passes all that testing. If she were sold as breeding quality then her breeder is the first place to start with your learning experience, otherwise go to some shows and watch the yorkies and find a person who has them and have them evaluate your dogs pedigree first of all, then her and then advise you as to a correct stud for her conformation and type.

I agree with the others.... and ummm... "menopause"? I think the term you are looking for is "heat", which is waaayyy not the same thing as menopause.

If you are really serious about this... 1 yr is way too young since she can't have had all of the necessary genetic testing done (and I don't mean a check-up at the vet). You sound like you really need to find a breed mentor and study under them for a few years before you are ready.

Please, please do your research first and find yourself a reputable and experienced mentor. You obviously know little about breeding, and this will only increase the risks involved in breeding for stud, bitch, and pups. Did you know that dogs can spread sexually transmitted diseases? Do you know how to prevent this? Do you know of any of the other risks?
Dogs need to be at least tow years old before being bred. Mostly because the OFA hip and elbow displcia test cannot be certified until this age. Dogs do not get menopause, but they do go into season about twice a year, generally. It can vary greatly, though.
