Several options for cost:
-Get to a low-cost vet
-Set up a payment plan with the vet
-Ask for donations
As a member of a family that is on a limited income *and* below the US poverty level, I can understand money issues. (We still take our dogs to the vet whenever necessary, and take them in for yearly check-ups.) But a vet is essential to owning a pet, and if you cannot afford one, the animal may be better off with someone else. Sad, but true.

Thuroughly examine the leg to make shur there are no splinters or thorns, cuts, etc... Carefully feel the bones and try the joints to see if you can pinpoint where the pain is coming from. Examine the whole leg from tips of toes, thru the hips, and along the spine. You can use the other leg for comparison. Make your pup totally rest for a day, could be a sore muscle or bruise. If you don't find anything obvious and simple like a cut or thorn, the pup really needs to go to the vet. If you really cant afford it, search ur area for a clinic. Ur local humane society mite know of one. The vet mite seem expensive now, but it will be cheaper in the long run if it turns out to be serious and you catch it early. Good luck!!!

I agree with both posters.
1st carefully examine the leg.
A sprain can take up to 2 weeks to heal if it is the muscle.
Dogs can also display hip dyplasia this early and the signs are limping.
Reduce any exercise to just going to potty outside and gently massage the leg for about 10 min. in the morning and one time in the evening.
Examine whole foot to see if he has cut or debris stuck in it.
If after rest and massage dog makes no improvement move on to the second posters suggestions he lists them. In the end, if the dog does have a serious condition with the leg set up a re-payment plan with the vet. Also some recues will fix the leg and adopt them out after surgery to a nice home.
