I am a little 9lb dog going on my first airplane trip. I will be in aa carry on with my mom. Can anyone tell my mom anything she can do to keep my from being so afraid. I just shake when I see the carry on. She puts me in it trying to get me use to it. Help
I use sleepytime tonic on my min pin. Its an all natural product and its really safe. It wont make your dog go to sleep but what it does is it calms their nerves and makes them almost dosy. I buy it from The urban Dog in edmonton, ab, but they do have an online store at www.theurbandog.ca . I wish you the best!

I'm the founder of Dogtravel Company. We side with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Dept. of Transportation, and the FAA and strongly discourage the use of any medications.
What we do suggest instead is to start to get your dog used the environment he or she will be traveling in. If in a carrier - leave the carrier out so your dog can get used to the smell. Maybe put a favorite toy or blanket in here (maybe even with some treats) so they can get used to going in and taking a name. DO NOT force your dog in there. He or she will never get comfortable if forced.
Take your dog on car rides. If he or she will be flying with us, we suggest using a car harness and putting your dog in their seat so they can get used to beingin a moving vehicle in their seat. If they'll be traveling in a carrier have them sit in the carrier while traveling.
In addition - plenty of exercise before traveling - along hour+ walk will work wonders in naturally tiring your dog.

My furbaby use to fly with us all the time since she was 3 months. She was flying for 13 years without any medication.
She too didn't like the kennel. The groomer had to sit her on a table until I can to pick her up. But, once she started flying with us in the kennel, she started to associate it with a good thing! I gave her lots of treats during take off and landing, during the flight she had toys but most of the time she slept.
I am a retired flight attendant and we always noticed that the animals where better than most of the kids. My husband and I would get comments like "do you have a dog in there"...they didn't know because she was so good.
By the way, if you want some travel outfits or accessories, please visit my mommy's site www.PuttinOnTheDogShop.com
Good luck flying! And remember, no meds......they don't really need them!
