How to get rid of reddish tear stains on Papillons face.

My 7 mo. old Papillon has reddish tear stains on her face. She's had them since before I got her at 14 wks. I don't think it's her food; she gets a good quality food, Innova. The breeder gave her Eukanuba. I got some Angel Eyes but she hates the taste when i mix it with her food so that was a waste of money. I also clean around her eyes with these special eye cleaning pads that i got from Fosters and Smith. They work somewhat but the staining still is kinda severe. Any suggestions?

Daisy has had worse stains then Boston although when I got Boston he had terrible stains then with a food switch they went away and never came back. Daisy's arent as bad as they were when she was on purina but still every time she goes outside and its sunny her eyes leak. I have them under control now though as I use spa lavish blueberry facial.blogs.dogster.com just-a-filler-in-pet-foods/
If you use it once a week in a month you will notice a difference. Use a fair amount and really scrub in well. Works from the inside out so it does take a while to notice the difference but with in a month of weekly use you will see a difference then a while longer they will be almost or completly gone.

Aster

I have heard it is the iron in the water, but never had the problem. You could try bottled water. It is cheap and easy to do. If you try it. let me know one way or another.

We have had good luck with changing their food... unfortunately, you need at least a month for the change to be evident AND the same food doesn't work for all of my poodles... some need a different brand than others.
Angel eyes or Tylan (the key ingredient in Angel eyes), does work but I won't keep them on an antibiotic on a daily basis so I usually just use that for a few weeks prior to dog shows. Fortunately, poodles have their faces shaved so it does shave off pretty well.

Jet

I recommend this brand of tearstain remover. We use it for Jet and I actually recommend the pads instead of the liquid, but this is still the same brand, and I bet they both work equally well.

These look like they work well. Again, I recommend the pads because I think they are easier to use, but I have never used the liquid sort. Tearstains are not a health problem, it's just that they don't look so appealing on dogs. If these products don't work, ask your vet about recommended products. If you go to a groomer, ask your groomer. If not, look in the phone book for groomers in your area to call and ask questions for recommended tearstain removers.

Paw mail me if you need! Please do
